TCU needs Big 12 invite.

I heard on radio sport show in San Antonio, (sorry no link), the host is a rather juvenile obnoxious sort, that the bigwigs at TCU would never join a conference that includes Texas.
Just reporting what I heard. He was implying he had some first hand knowledge of this. Sounded like a Texas-hater to me.

This was all over Sports Talk Radio in DFW last night. I heard it on 3 shows (The Ticket, 103.3 ESPN and 105.3 the Fan) on my way home last night. I like the idea of adding TCU - their football team is a huge improvement over aggy. I usually go to at least one game in Austin every year, and will continue to do so, but now I can see my horns in Dallas, Fort Worth and Austin. No way in hell I would have flown to Oregon or Washington or Arizona. This is a good move in my opinion.

There's a long history between TCU and UT, and when everybody else (ahem.... aggy) is abandoning longstanding rivalries, we are renewing ours with an old conference foe.

My initial feeling was that TCU went to the Big East to get an easy route into the BCS, and there's no way they'd be willing to play a Big XII schedule. Having seen the first wave of exodus from the Big East with the promise of more to come, I think they may be a lot more interested now. It's becoming obvious that the Big East's football powers do not consider the conference to be serious about its quality of football, and that should be a sign to TCU that they should be rethinking their decision.

Chip Brown says Big XII interest in TCU is rising.

He also mentions that BYU WAS interested until OU shot their mouth off and started the PAC exodus talk again. Now they're wary. He said that BYU only made $2 million from football operations last year and Big XII could mean $18 million per year, but "they're not all about the money".

Don't ever forget that TCU = Cockroach. I was a tender 14 years old when TCU upset one of DKR's strongest teams in 1961. Texas was No. 1 and averaging an amazing 33 points per game in an era of low-scoring limiited substitution.

That day I learned the awful feeling of NC dreams being burst by an inferior team. Never, Never forget that cockroaches need to squashed like the miserable vermin they are!

Play the game at Jerry's Wolrd every other year. One more game in DFW has to be a good thing imo. Also then there might be less incentive to move TX-OU

Yes to TCU. As fans, we don't need revenue bases. They're remodeling their stadium and keeping the conference interests in DFW. This can only be good for Texas. Plus, it'll be some easy wins in the nonrevenue sports.

No to USF. It's like the UH of Florida. Commuter school with no loyal fanbase, and the ones that are loyal are incompetent fans (cheering louder when offense has the ball, booing nonconference opponents when they enter the field, etc.).

While I understand the need to respect the 'number of tv' sets argument, here's a reminder.

Years ago, Microsoft PC based products held a substantial edge of Apple (Mac) computers. By a huge margin of something like 80+ percent to whatever. Domestically and world wide.

Steve Jobs did not try and redesign his products to fit that economic model. He did not say, "I need to get the majority of users world wide -- so I need to give them what they're already getting, only get mine." Instead he aimed at innovation and quality of a different kind.

Result: iPod, IPhone, iPad, and a company worth more than Exxon (recently). And more, the Apple stores are "the thing" in China. Apple products are simply the 'name of the game' in hi-tech products.

So there comes a time when you CREATE REALITY, and CREATE VALUE, and you think outside the box.

We're at the point where networks cannot barter for much more to a conference, or to all conferences combined, based purely on "number of sets." I'm just guessing, but I think the markets are maxed out. Plenty of sets tuned in to -- to everything. And from everywhere. This is no longer a rabbit ear age, or eve a 'cable' age. So what remains as the 'differentiation' in it all?

Steve Jobs has been a visionary. That's why I've always used his products. ESPN said the LHN was a one-of-a-kind deal, and I think that was because Texas (the University and the State) is a one-of-a-kind entity.

We don't have to think number of tv sets. That's done. Now let's move on to creating value in other ways -- and I mean doing things and building things no one else is thinking about or believing in.

You know. Just like the creation of LHN.

I have officially changed my mind about TCU.

Absolutely, positively, yes, yes, yes, bring TCU into the B12.

That way, Texas will be motivated to leave this crappy conference.

Let's bring in Boise State, too. There's another great motivator.

Let's see .... Any of you guy's like Memphis? Nevada?

No, we need to add really crappy teams.

How about SMU? Houston? Ya'll love Houston.

I won't suggest Rice because that school actually makes some sense.

Oh yea, BYU. Bring in BYU.

I'm very serious about all these clubs. It's the only way to get Texas out of this dead-end league.

Do you just want to go to 16? How about 20?

I say add TCU, BYU and AF. Texas, Tech and Baylor plus the 3 newbies in the Southwest Div and the Big8 six in the Northeast Div. Ou and Texas in separate divisions but annual crossover game (Tech-OkSt, Bay-IowSt, TCU-Mizz...). Going to 16 would be a good idea (before the BigEast gets its footing) with Lou, WV, Cin and S Fla. That would piss off the sec. Some don't sound splashy now but time is a great neutralizer when the interest is there. The diminished share of the money split is less important than getting a BCS conference with lasting power. Money will never be short at UT and TV contracts for this conference would probably surprise within a few yrs

Absolutely, hell yea!

Air Force, you bet. Can we add Army and Navy, too? Does Coast Guard have a team yet? We could corner the market on the military schools.

Louisville, Cincinnati, West Virginia. Let's add'um all. Do you realize we'd control the whole Ohio River Valley?

Central Florida, Southern Florida, Florida International. Beaches, chicks, beer. I'm in.

Southwest Louisiana State. In fact, let's add all the directional Louisana directional schools. We could give them their own pod. They're close by. Easy to drive to. Rah, rah.

New Mexico -- there's a budding rivalry. It's the state next door. Albuquerque. Cool town. More hot chicks. Ever been there? Let's add'um. Neat name, Lobos.

Hey, Colorado State, too. They're close to New Mexico, and both states have beautiful mountains. We love mountains. They'd have a natural rivalry with Air Force. Neato jet.

Is North Dakota State too far away? Too cold, you say? How about South Dakota? It's south, should be warmer.

You know what? The more of these schools that get added, the quicker Texas is outta here.

XOVER,

You going overboard on trying to water down the Big 12 doesn't make your arguement of adding TCU would make it a crappy conference. Sorry but you ought to consider taking a break with all this realignment talk.

Good luck keeping this crappy conference together. It is only a matter of time before Missouri bolts to the SEC or (less likely) the Big Ten. The nine remaining schools have "agreed in principle" to give their TV rights to the conference for the next six years. That would essentially handcuff the schools to the Big 12 by making them leave behind their TV rights and money if they break away or are poached by another league. But no contracts have been signed and the proposal needs approval of at least some school governing boards around the Big-12. If Missouri doesn't sign, they're ultimately headed out the door. The trouble with the Big-12 is that Texas has the Longhorn Network and UT has made it clear they're not sharing any of that revenue.

BYU, Air Force, and Boise State would be the best candidates to replace A&M, but only BYU would provide the most fans.
