I thought after the game that probably was the single biggest mistake the D made all game.

I liked the fact that holding calls against the o-line didn’t mean an automatic punt. (They over came this multiple times.) Also liked the fact that the receivers were past the first down marker on third downs when they needed a first. Plus It was nice having a coach who didn’t seem like a liability….

I noted that on the game thread as well. Herman's offenses always seemed to curl up into a fetal position when we got 1st and 20 or 2nd and 15. We just did not recover from mistakes, and as many as we overcame yesterday, I can't just say it was coincidence. That seems like coaching and playcalling and consistent execution.

Every coach in the big XII will have noted that Texas gave the pass to the RB in the flat to ULaLa. The closest Texas defender was always 2 to 3 yards off the receiver. What saved Texas was the tackles were sure (which shows improved fundamentals), but giving 4 to 5 yards to Big XII offenses will lead to long and disappointing afternoons.

I've heard in the past that Pete's philosophy has always been to give underneath stuff and tighten up closer to the end zone. We'll see if that bears out.

I've never understood that. It would be like me seeing a thunderstorm 100 miles out and waiting until I'm 10 miles from it to do something. Or, at least, that's the best analogy I could come up with lol.

Arkansas might be tougher, but I wouldn't say they "should". They've been awful for the past 4 years (11-35 record) and probably would lose to La-Lafayette.

Yes, this same team that struggled with Rice for over half of the game yesterday. I'm not sure why there is such confidence that Arky will be pumped up any more than any other team we play. I'm not sure there is a player on their roster who has experienced a collegiate winning season. If we can punch them in the mouth early they'll fold like wet doilies...in my opinion.

But I also thought the defense would set the tone yesterday and I felt like they didn't get enough d-line pressure and gave up too many big chunks of yards even though they only scored 18. Against better opponents that could spell trouble if not improved.

Yeah, at one point arky was was down 7-17 to the Owls before waking up. Agree if the Horns punch em the mouth and get an early lead, the hawgs self doubts and "here we go again" will begin to creep in....

I think Sark is light years ahead of where Herman was after game 1! Better game day coaching, better pre-season coaching. We have top 10 talent. Now we have the coaching to match. Let’s see what the consensus is after the OU game next month. It takes 5-6 games in to know what we have. Realistically.

So after 24 hours I am tired but really happy with yesterday. Play was noticeably better and coaching was head and shoulders above the last decade(s). Business like coaching and playing. I hope we get on top of Arkansas very quickly to discourage them. I think many Big 12 teams will also be teams to put away early or bad things will happen. OU really sucked yesterday. Which was nice.

This is my biggest concern. The DL was supposed to be the best unit on the team, but they did not get any kind of consistent pressure on the ULL QB.

That group was big. Maybe they were as good as advertised?

Over the last 10 years or so, too often it has been something like OU 14 or 21 and Texas 0… before everyone has found their seats.

I’m ready for a different approach. In fact, I have had that game circled since Kwiatkowski was hired. Fascinating chess match. I’m really intrigued to see how that game plays out, and how he schemes for Riley’s offense.

I just got home and haven't watched recording yet, but I posted on here several times my concern about the South end debacle and the wind whipping around there like it does at Rice Stadium. at the time, I thought that's what happened to the kick. I reiterate, Sark needs those kickers practicing with that wind every damn day.

Part of me kept thinking "Why is everybody talking Card up based on his numbers because they're not exactly eye-catching," and then I remembered that he did it in two and a half quarters. He was well on pace for 300-plus and if the game had been close, might have ended up with 400 the way things were going.

Should be interesting to see how his line looks next week.

Because he made some pro-caliber throws. That pass to Cade Brewer for the TD was into heavy coverage and was a thing of beauty. He gets the ball out quick with plenty of zip on it, so the receiver has time to make a move before the defender gets there, like on Whittington's "beast mode" run. He's also very accurate. My only criticism would be that he needs to work on his long throws.

Apparently he’s really concerned about the possibility that Casey will transfer before season is over. That doesn’t seem like a smart move to me, but who knows. Casey apparently told him in training camp that he wouldn’t back up Hudson Card.

Casey needs to back it up with sterling preparation and leadership. His carefree attitude may be fine for a backup, but not the starter. It shows in the interceptions during scrimmages, if those rumors are true.
