Taco Shack on Guadalupe.

Although I haven't been to the new location, I have eaten at Taco Shack for years. It's a great place to get a better than average breakfast taco. My favorite is the Burnet Road Burrito. It's a large tortilla filled with egg, bacon, potato, and cheese. If I'm really hungry or hung over, I add a bean and cheese taco to seal the deal.

It's also a great way to start a game day if we have an early kick off. I can't speak for everyone, but I love Taco Shack! The owner is also a huge Longhorn fan, and a good guy.
 
Went there today. 3 Potatoe, Egg, and bacon tacos came to about $5 and they were damn good. I'm a little more full than I care to be after breakfast, but it was worth it.
 
Bobby, you're getting confused with another place. Taco Shack has never been on the Drag until a month or so ago. I do remember there being some small mexican place at that location, but it was not a Taco Shack.
 
Craig, I've been going to the Taco Shack across from Ken's Donuts on Guadalupe for years. Haven't been there in a while, so dont' remember if its gone or not, but it is/was indeed called "Taco Shack".
 
Texas Horn, It's not that big of a deal, but I have known the owner of the Taco Shacks here in Austin for 5 years, and we talked right before he made the decision to open a new location on the drag. I specifically remember saying he was nervous about opening a new location on the drag, especially because it would be during the summer, when a lot of the students are gone. I too remember there being a mexican place being in that location, but I'm almost certain it was not a Taco Shack. My favorite location is still the original on Medical Parkway, but the one on Spicewood Springs is good too. For you guys that are in the area, they also have a good lunch menu. Nothing fancy, but it's brown and hot, and will stick to your ribs.
 
This is a new location for Taco Shack, I am pretty sure that it was called The Tamale House No. 2 before Taco Shack bought the property.
 
I never trusted the old Tamale House incarnation, even when I lived across the street at the Carrolls apts. What really sealed the deal was when my gal and I were at 31 Flavors, I noticed somebody on the ground, not moving, half way in the Tamale House door. I mentioned it to the 31 Flavors employee, and they decided to call 911. I hustled over there hoping the guy hadn't been shot in a robbery or had a stroke or something, and he flat stank of liquor. Seems he was actually pass-out drunk (this was at 7pm or something) and was rather surprised to see a small crowd and ambulance when we finally managed to roust him!
 
i drove by this place yesterday. it's not what i thought. Tamale House is no more. the demise of Austin continues...

dammit, this is my home town! why don't you people go home!!

I think it is the same ownership as before, but they've changed menus and names.

I think the old place burned down a few months ago, so they got insurance money to build a new place and make it all nice and sanitary. I also wouldn't be surprised if they burned it down accidentallly on purpose to make that happen.

Well, the good thing is that the owner of Taco Shack is actually a local boy. He went to High School here so he is from Austin. He has just slowly built up his business. He started out in a little place on Medical Parkway right by 45th Street and has been growing ever since.
 
So, I went to the one at Guadalupe/29th this morning. There was a nice rat hanging out in the seating area...
