Has anybody else been paying attention to the incompetent and just overtly political distributions of the H1N1 vaccine? The CDC is handling the distributions of the vaccine and the inequity in distribution is just mind-boggling.
In D/FW, Dallas County just this week recieved 19,200 doses of H1N1 vaccine, on top of the initial amount (I believe about 7,000) around three weeks ago. Collin County has received 500 total. 500. Gee, Dallas County happens to be majority Democratic, Collin County is known as the GOP's strongest county. Nothing to see here, I suppose.
Moreover, when did it become a BAD thing to have insurance? Pregnant women and infants are in the high risk group. Yet, if you have insurance, you likely cannot find vaccine. Meanwhile, the Dallas County Health Department has thousands, but you need not apply if you have health insurance. I suppose my 18 month old should get sick and potentially die because I actually have a job and insurance. Stupid.
Don't get me wrong, I am not saying the insured should have a priority over the uninsured. But, on what planet does it make any sense that because I pay for health insurance, I am barred from receiving health care?!?!?!?
My wife is pregnant with our second, and our son is in the risk group. Everyday we check for availabie vaccines at the physicians offices with the same answer. None. Meanwhile we watch while mass vaccination clinics are given to the uninsured.
I am certain this will divide along the usual lines, with the usual suspects calling me an elitest or worse. But, I am just trying to keep my family healthy and safe. I cannot believe that we have come to a point in this country where having a job and paying for insurance is a real impediment to that.
