Survivor 11/12

That sucked. Russell was visibly upset as he should be. Glad he won the fan favorite prize.

I quit watching survivor after Richard Hatch won but picked it up a few years later because my wife watches it. If Russell weren't going to be on the next season I might have stopped watching again.

Russell's arrogance is what got him to the final vote but it's also what cost him in the final vote. If he would have pulled a Captain America and won a string of challenges at the end to make it to the final three, I think the jurors would have figuratively bowed in reverence and gave him their vote. Instead he largely got there by leading a blindside (i.e., lying, deceiving, manipulating) on almost everyone one of the jurors. Part of the game, I know, but I think this falls in the category of "Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me".

No doubt we'll see him next season in their "Villians vs. Heros" themed all-star competition, and we'll see him quietly go out on the second or third vote.

to win these shows.. you need to be blonde, southern, polite and just don't over think it or over play it. A strong personality and aggressive play rarely makes you the winner.

See Big Brother this year with Jordan.. and now Natalie on Survivor.

The whole "Outwit, outplay, outlast" mantra is such a joke. The jurors do not take an oath or sign a contract to vote on these parameters. Its a fatal flaw in the game. To win this game, you either have to be a lucky coat tail rider like Natalie or be a likable underdog who wins all the immunity challenges.

I think Survivor is a great show but they really need to revamp how the winner is selected.

it is a show and the people that play, take it as if it was life or death. Just because your strategy was one way is not indicative of who you are as a person. It simply is the way you feel will work best for you.

When they get to the Q & A portaion the people on the jury almost always make themselves look like asses the way they come off.

It is very easy to be honest and not stab anyone in the back and get voted off day 20, but to do that and make it to the final 2 or 3 is completely a different story.

But to answer your question, I would be interested in a formula such as:

- Each vote from jury counts as one point
- Each individual/hidden immunity idol counts as one point
- POY vote counts as 3 points

I think the jury, Galu were a bunch or whiny sore losers and they gave it to Natalie out of spite. If you listen to Eric on the Ponderosa he is giving it to the person least less deserving.

Galu is a bunch of sore losers and they got together to stick it to Russell. Because he made them look like fools on National Television

Russell should've won it! Oh well. At least it wasn't a Galu member! They all sucked, esp Laura and Monica! Couldn't stand either!!

Nuclear,
I just don't agree. Do you want future players to model their games to be more like Natalie - coat-tail riders who never make any bold moves as to not offend the jury? We all tune in to the game to watch the Russells not the Natalies. The only thing that Natalie brought to the show was that she looked good in a two-piece.

Survivor's mantra is outwit, outplay, outlast. How did Natalie outwit or outplay Russell? Its simply absurd to argue that she did.

UTChE96,

I won't argue with you that Russell's game makes for better tv watching. However, even by the Survivor mantra of "outwit, outplay and outlast" Natalie played the better game.

One definition of "outwit" is to outsmart a dangerous opponent. She clearly did that by intentionally letting Russell be the front-man in the alliance from day one.

One definition of "outplay" is to surpass on opponent in skill or technique. Again, her technique was different and in the end proved better than Russell's bull in a china shop technique.

A definition of "outlast" is to endure or last longer than an opponent. She clearly did this by outlasting every other person than played the game.

If the criteria was that the winner was the one that made the best tv, than Russell would have been the clear winner. Along those same lines Rupert would have won several years ago, or the skinny guy who's name I can't remember.

I think that Russell should have won. But he really has no one to blame but himself.

The article is spot on on why Russell lost despite playing one of the best games of Survivor ever.

Probst isnt kidding when he says the power now lies with the jury.

The best player hardly ever wins Survivor. In fact, they usually don't get to the final jury vote as they're voted out early for being a threat. Russel was the best player, but he made too many enemies along the way. Natalie will go down as one of the least deserving winners - behind Vecepia (Marquesas).

Here's another one for least-deserving: Sandra from Pearl Islands. On a season that had Rupert and, IIRC, several other good players, the final two came down to Sandra and the Cub Scout lady? Gimme a break.
