Surprising Spurs

Yes, really. 20 to 0 and it wasn't that one team was driving and the other wasn't, it was that the rules were different depending on who had the ball. And the same thing happened last night with the Heat. Both teams might have won anyway, but such a strong double standard made it nearly impossible for the road team because they simply aren't able to even try the same type of things while the home team can do anything they want and are likely to get bailed out. I just turned off the game late in the 3rd when it was obvious they weren't even going to try to be fair. Can't remember the last time I did that with a game that was still competitive by the time and score.

Oh, and it's 10-0 in FTs right now in the middle of the 2nd quarter. This is starting to resemble the 2006 Heat-Mavs series.

Spurs win in 7 then.....

I think they are having nightmares right now thinking "not again". How does a team dominate two games then get dominated the next two? The next is a must win or else. This could be the end of an era for the Spurs.

I would love to be wrong but I don't think the Spurs can win 2 out of the next 3 to OKC even with the edge in home games. Also don't think OKC can beat the Heat in 4 out of 7.

Interesting stats:

Game 5 winners go on to win best-of-seven series 86% of the time.

The Spurs set an NBA record with their seventh straight home playoff game win by at least 15 points.

Duncan’s 154th career postseason double-double brought him within three of Magic Johnson’s record.

The media is making a big deal out of the Heat becoming only the third team in NBA history to make the finals in four consecutive seasons.

Not that they aren't a very good team, but that accomplishment really should have an asterisk next to it - i.e. *Due in part to the weak competition in the Eastern Conference.

Officiating have just been atrocious. Goal tend should have been called in Spurs favor, and Duncan with a huge moving pick to get Manu the 3 that would have left OKC with the lead and the ball. Both just terrible calls.

Parker gets several days to rest that ankle before the Heat. He probably would have been a little shaky on Monday for game 7.

Amazing comeback by the Spurs. 8 down, no Tony Parker, and they come back and win. Hope they kick the Heats ***.

On to avenge for that horrible game six last year against Miami. They gave that title away last year and it sounds like the team is hungry to get it back.

Some say that statistically it didn't make much difference and perhaps they're right, but I never did like the 2-3-2. If they were going to use it, it should have been for all series and not just for the finals.

I could understand that thirty years ago before the practical availability of private charter travel. A non-stop LA to Boston now on a team jet is what, five hours, or less?

Another reason of David Stern's for originally making the change was the potential reduction in media coverage due to the increased cost of travel.

I believe there was also only one "travel day" off between games back then.

At any rate, none of those reasons are valid today and haven't been for a long time.

Again, I don't have stats to back it up, but I believe with all else being relatively equal, the 2-2-1-1-1 format provides a better opportunity for a game seven. Some players and even some fans may not like it, but it's high drama and that's what the league and the media are hoping for.

Or chugged pickle juice. Certainly surprising that LeBron had a charley horse but Wade, Parker, and Duncan, the guys I would have most expected to have trouble, were fine.

Nice rebound by the Spurs to take control - twice - on the road in game three after a tough loss at home. It's been a while since I've seen a team as hot as they were in the first half.

I still get the feeling this could go seven.

Miami either has to win 3 straight, or take game 7 in San Antonio. Who is this new Danny Green we just saw?!

Well, that was surprising. Not so much the back to back wins in Miami, but more the evisceration of the Heat in those games.

I'm old enough to remember 1979 when the Spurs had a 3-1 lead in the conference championship series and ended up with a controversial loss to the Washington Bullets in game 7.

Of course two of the last three losses (including game 7) in that 79 series were on the road. I don't see this team losing two at home.

I was never that much of a Spurs fan. More Rockets. Little bit Mavs. Sort of didn't warm up to the Spurs much at all.

But I have to say, I'm more than happy at the schooling they are handing Mr. James and his worn out helpmates. To see the Heat unable to buy their way to this title... to more than likely end up with just the two... does me good.

I wish the Longhorns could learn to pass and move the ball like that. Anyway... hope the Spurs close this out Sunday night.
