Super Regional Texas v. East Carolina

The Aggies (42-18) in their first year under coach Jim Schlossnagle advance to their first College World Series in Omaha, Neb., in five years. This will be A&M’s seventh trip to the CWS, and the Aggies are 0-6 in their last three appearances in 1999, 2011 and 2017. They haven’t won a CWS game since 1993 against Kansas under then-coach Mark Johnson.

For the 8th and 9th

Harrison would be the safe and cautious choice.

Southard would be the ballsy choice.

Other guys, if needed, include LBJ, Olivarez, and even Hansen for a batter or two.

then there’s our actual closer—Nixon

Johnson led the Aggies to the College World Series in 1993. The Aggies won the Southwest Conference championship and swept through the Central I Regional in College Station (defeating Yale, Lamar, UCLA, and North Carolina) at Olsen Field to advance to Omaha for the third time. A&M defeated Kansas, 5–1, for the 2nd CWS win in A&M history. Notable stars on the team included Jeff Granger (who holds the single game strikeout record at A&M with 21), Brian Thomas, Chris Clemons, Trey Moore and Kelly Wunsch.

In the 1951 College World Series, Texas A&M defeated Ohio State 3–2 in a first round elimination game to give the Aggies their first College World Series win.

Whomever we trot out there—keep him on a short leash. First walk and you’re getting pulled. We’ve got 4-5 + capable arms available. There’s also Cobb—he gets hit, but he throws strikes.

Sticking with Sthele

and he gets us out of the 8th with no runs

another good fielding play by Messinger at 3rd

I had forgotten about Jeff Granger. He's in the top ten of potentially great pitchers ruined by A&M. Not as good as or with the potential of Lueken or Pryor, but still top ten, maybe top five.

mc,

Most fans don't realize that the SWC was around about 75 years and Texas had won or tied for the conference championship all but ten times.

Our bullpen blew game 1, won game 2, and currently winning game 3. Fairly remarkable if it holds.
