Student killed when hit by vehicle

A 17 year old sophomore at Copperas Cove High School was killed this morning when another student(a senior) accidentally hit her as she was standing in the road waiting for a school bus. He was driving into the sun and she was standing a few feet in the road. Apparently he never saw her until it was too late. Today also happened to be her 17th birthday. We do not know if she was a Christian, but we hope and pray that she was. The young man is a strong Christian who will definitely have to turn to God in this situation. Please pray for her family and for the young man who hit her. He could be charged with manslaughter (this is simply speculation at this point). But he does need our prayers. This would be tough for anyone, especially a high school senior. The families of both people involved really need prayer support. Rise up Longhorns!

sounds like it was just a tragic accident. prayers to all involved. i don't s'pose the two knew each other?

*Update* Apparently as the DPS have discovered the girl was standing two feet in from the center line in the lane the driver was in. And the sun was not a factor as the sun had not quite made it's presence known. While he was going (estimated) 6 - 10 miles over the speed limit the DPS said speed was a minor factor in the accident and anyone going upwards of 40 mph and up would have not been able to avoid the collision. He also was coming up over a hill and that played a factor in the accident as well.

As of now the family is not pressing charges against the senior high school student. For those of you who watched the news, they made a really big deal about him being the qb for the football team. Members of the team have said that football is not even in his mind right now as he deals with the trauma of this situation to his mental state. It is causing quite a stir in the school and community with all of the stupid rumors going around.

And no... the two students did not know each other. Most of the students did not know the girl as she is one of our resource students (special ed.) and they are separated from the other students for the most part of the day in their own building.

Just keep praying. It's effecting a lot of teenagers right now who always think they are bullet-proof until something like this happens and reality hits them in the face.

Prayers for all. I hope he can find the strength he needs in his family and his God to find his way through this.

thanks for that updated info.. that really is just awful

i'm curiuos why the parents were standing guard over their "special" kid while waiting for the bus which drives on a road.

*update* This is the worst thing of them all. DPS Troopers have discovered through their investigation that the girl was playing chicken in the road. Not only by herself, but with smaller kids. They all ran off the road after they saw lights coming down the road and were safely away from the road for probably 20 seconds before the truck came. Apparently Krystal had "learned" this from other high school students who had done the same thing on prior occasions. In her mental condition... I think it's the normal "stupid" teenagers that showed her how to do that who need to be in trouble.

Another update. The mother will not press charges in light of the fact that her daughter was purposefully standing in the road. It's still sickening. What if those little kids had not gotten off the road? Have mercy on those idiot teenagers lives.

My sister taught special ed at Cove the last two years. She left this school year, but talked to some teachers about the accident. She doesn't know the girl, as she was new at Cove this year.

wow i'm shocked. I knew krystal very well. Been friends with her family for a few years now. They are a Christian family and never intended to press charges against the young man it had nothing to do with any investigation that may or maynot have been done. She was not playing in the middle of the road i spoke with her brother who was there and he said she was getting her cousin out of the road. The family is having a very hard time still with the loss of krystal as are all who knew her well. Special ed.. you are making it sound like she had the mentality of a 5 yr old. She was a very inteligent girl and also a very sweet and kind hearted girl. She was very active in her church. She also brought alot of other kids to the church mine included and there is not a thing she would not do for anyone. I am not saying anything bad against the young man who hit her lord knows he has a long rough road to travel and i wish him the best and my heart goes out to him i am sure it was in no way intentional. God bless him but please don't think krystal was some kind of idiot she was saving the life of a very young child at the time and is now with our father
