strange snacks that you enjoy

I think I have mentioned this before, but here it is. My Grandfather "Charlie" once hitched a ride on a horsedrawn wagon (1914 or even earlier) from Houston to San Antonio. The only goods in the wagon were sour pickles and pound cakes. That is all they had to eat for the journey. He always liked that combination. Not sure you can even find sour pickles--these are not dills, just sour.

Regular Lays potato chips with Miracle Whip...mmm.

Saltine Crackers with colby jack cheese and ham, just kind of a mini sandwich with crackers instead.

Homemade olive spread and sourdough bread.

Unless I missed it earlier on this thread, I've never seen anyone else mention this either here or other places I've read similar topics:

Apple slices with cheddar cubes. My dad used to eat this when we were kids, and we always wanted to try what he was having. It was just slices of regular red apples, with little cubes of sharp cheddar. It was surprisingly very good. The contradiction in flavors worked well, and even now, my wife thinks I'm crazy.

Anyway, my wife is going to the grocery store tomorrow. I just told her to add the gummi bears to the list...I gotta try these too.

Open up a small bag of Fritos, pour a healthy amount of Tabasco inside and shake. The end result is a great snack.

I echo the pickles and potato chips sentiment, as well. I also love to dip potato chips in pimento cheese.

I try not to give in to these former addictions, but once in a while...Price's pimento cheese spread on crackers, sardines on crackers, or Earl Campbell summer sausage on crackers with a good spicy mustard. Usually only when the wife is out of town.

Marcel et Henri pate foie gras with truffles and cognac on garlic bagel chips. (S&W goose liverwurst in a pinch)

Aged Gouda 1.5 years plus, as old as I can find.

I also keep stacks of cans of kippers and smoked oysters.

I jumped on this late, so I don't know if anyone will read this, but here goes anyway.....

Orange Sherbret with chocolate sauce...tastes like a frozen orange cream.

Cheddar cheese is awesome when washed down with black coffee.

Macaroni & cheese with salt, pepper, garlic salt, and chili powder

Kalamata Olives and feta cheese. I get a toothpick and skewer an olive and a crumble of cheese. I'm going to get one now actually. IT was excellent.

If you want to spice it up a notch, what is REALLY good is that same thing on a pepperoni. ******* fantastic.

Actually I'll just add pepperonis to my list. I can never buy a bag because they are so bad for you and I just eat the whole thing in a day or 2.

Not "strange".

Trader Joe's almonds

They're the best in the world. I always have to bring a few pounds back to my sister when I come back to Dallas (from LA) and my parents barrel right through them as well.

some wild stuff on this list. here are my "not so wild" suggestions that still get odd looks from people, even though i find them tasty

Peanut butter + bacon on toast.

pistachio pudding + half a bag of chocolate chips mixed in. delicious.

peanut butter + jelly sandwich + a layer of cheez-its in the middle.

also, i'll dip about anything in queso, but hopefully everyone does that.

I dunno what to call them, but a friend gave me this recipe where you take the BIG jar of sour pickles, empty it, quarter the pickles, put them back in the jar quartered, add a jar of jalapenos, a bottle of tabasco, and a ****-ton of sugar and let it sit for a day.

Out comes these allsome sweet-hot pickles. I can eat them by the ton.
