Did a Wikeipdeia search on UT Baseball. Wow, lots of interesting info there.

TEXAS is the winningest college Division 1 program at the end of 2021:

Wins: 3649
Losses: 1373
Ties: 32
Winning percentage: .725

6 National Championships
1949, 1950, 1975, 1983, 2002, 2005

7 runner ups to NC

Ardoin has been coming on strong.
We need Ivan to heal up.
And Kennedy too.
Murph is still red hot, but not quite as ridiculous as a week or two ago.
Messinger keeps batting over 0.350+

On the mound, Tristan has struggled early in games. Hansen is still doing really well, with an occasional so-so game. Gordon is consistently good. Pencil him in for at least Hon Mention All-Conference, if not 2nd Team All-Conference. Harrison has been strong. Nixon is getting back to his old self, and his control has improved a lot over the last few games.

Thanks for the stats. We look great on paper. But we are mid pack big 12 in the w-l.
What this shows me is that when our pitching is good our hitting is bad. When our hitting is good our pitching is bad.
Which means we are maybe not focused every game somewhere. Kind of like UT Football.

I think our team ERA just went up a tad after the 1st Air Force game...

:eek::eek::eek:

Better wait til after the Baylor series to re-calculate everything.

I would like to know how we rank in HRs given up.
Last year I tried to find on the ncaa baseball stats website our ranking in strikeouts, as in Texas strikeouts. I swear we were top 3 in nation. Anyway, they don’t report those numbers. Likely the same with your stat.

Even more so after the second Air Force game. Yep, I’ll wait until after the Baylor series to re-calculate the stats…

Chop's commentary -- power hitting/slugging teams like us and Tech will often have more strikeouts. This stat, while interesting, may not matter much, as conference leading OkSt (and currently the nations #3 ranked team :rolleyes1:) is the worst--tied with Tech. Cellar dweller Kan is 3rd best, and Baylor is the tops--and as we've recently seen, they suck. The top 2 offenses by runs scored are in the bottom 3 for strikeouts by Team's batters.

4/25/2022 update takeaway:

We're still tops in the conference in stats, overall. Tech is still a solid 2nd, followed by OSU and TCU. WV is looking more-and-more like a pretender that happened to get a great start out of the gates, but it ain't over...

I'm not going to re-post all stats after yesterday (Tuesday 4/26), but I'll highlight the following new numbers (as of 4/27):

Pitching:

Pitching Staff ERA: 3.90 (next best is OSU at 4.19). Nice work Zane Morehouse. Speaking of which, Morehouse's ERA is now down to 2.95, with a WHIP of 1.13.

Batting:

Batting Average: Melendez is up to 0.404 (#2 in Big 12), Messinger is up to 0.368 (#6 in Big 12), Murph is down below 0.400 for the first time ever (0.399--#3 in Big 12). So, we have the #2, #3, and #6 batters in the conference in our lineup.
Team Batting average is 0.320 (#1 in the Big 12; Tech is #2 at 0.300, OSU is #5 at 0.278).

As a team, we're #1 in the Conference in Batting, Pitching, and Fielding.

We're still looking good on the stat sheet. Going into the conference tournament with the #2 and #4 pitchers in the conference is good. We also have the 2nd best batting average and top slugging %. We could be one heck of a spoiler in somebody's regional--better yet winner of our own regional.

All this points to good numbers, and a good overall team. Stronger at the plate than on the mound--although our top 2 starters are faring very well. (Gordon and Hansen). Our numbers don't stack up to Tennessee, but on paper, this is a good team.

Most stats are updated as of 5/9/2022.

UT and Tech look the most formidable on the stats sheet. Lubbock will be a tough place for visiting teams at a regional. Don't write us off as for getting a regional yet. They look at things other than just "D1 Baseball"'s online rankings.

Q: will Kennedy be back for the regionals? He's got hamstring issues, right?
It sure would good to have his bat back in the lineup.
