We are ahead 6 1/2 to 4 1/2 with the critical and deciding month of April. Remember in case of a 9 1/2 to 9 1/2 tie the Aggies retain the cup but I will elaborate on that later.

Our Softball team plays the Aggies in College Station on April 7 and in Austin on April 21. I am hoping we at least get a split here to put us within 3 points of victory.

On April 16, 17 and 18 we play three baseball games with the first being in Austin and the other two at CS. The point goes to who wins two out of the three games.

On April 17 our Men's tennis team plays them at Austin. Let's hope we get this point because last year we lost at CS and that hurt us in the competition.

On April 20 our Women's tennis team plays the Aggies at CS. We beat them last year but the Aggies are tough at CS.

The Big 12 Men and Women's Golf championship are on April 23 to 25. Unfortunately the Aggies got both points but I hope we can get a split here but it will be tough because the Aggies won the NC last year in Men's Golf.

We do have the Outdoor Men and Women Track Big 12 Championship in May but I give both points to the Aggies at this time even though we are improving and catching up and have got some good recruting I don't think we will be there yet.

Last year $Bill was bragging about the tie since they retained the overall trophy by the tie breaking system and said it was their's to keep till we take it away. At least we are a little ahead here in that attitude because whether we retain the trophy or not in case of a tie I will be very unhappy with a tie. But that is the difference between us and the Aggies. Let's hope we will never under any circumstances ever get to the point where we are happy with a tie with the Aggies.

GO HORNS! LET'S GET THAT TROPHY BACK.

Bill, as much as I like your optimism that we can split the golf points, it is hard to see it happening. The keys will be women's tennis and getting a split in softball. You have to like our chances in men's tennis as they are now ranked fourth and rolling again. Would be great to see them in a third straight final four. You also have to like baseball with this pitching staff and looking beyond the lone star showdown this team is shaping up to have a real shot to get to Omaha and do some damage. That gets us to 8 1/2. The Longhorn ladies then need to get the last 1 and 1/2 points and that is where tennis and softball are critical because we have zero chance of picking off a point in T&F.

All of that said, the NC in swimming was fantatstic and we will once again finish ahead of aggy in the Director's Cup. You have to be happy with the overall success of the Texas athletic department this year with volleyball making the NC game, Football making the NC game, and both basketball teams making the tournament (yes they both lost early but consistency in making the tournament is indicative of a strong department). Men's tennis and baseball have a chance to cap an outstanding year nationally for this department.

I agree FW. Unfortunately even though we are improving I don't think we are there in Golf. On paper we should get the Men's tennis point and the baseball point. I agree the Women's tennis may decide it and I would be more optimistic if it was in Austin. Also we need that split in softball or it is probably gone again. If we get those we can win by a close 10 - 9 point otherwise the Aggies will unfortunately probably win or get it again by the tie default.

Overmars, if that can happen it would be huge. Last year I thought we would take the mens golf point especially after beating aggy early in a tourney in Austin where every day our score bested theirs, but at the Big XII tournament it just never seemed to come together and aggy began their run to the NC. Would be nice to take them down in a sport where they are the defending national champs.

Bill, I agree with you on the track; howerver I don't see how we are catching up. We are signing top people, but, as you know, depth wins the team competition in track. aggy and Nebraska have figured out how to get the numbers in to win.

I know what you mean viper! I remember the one year we won the NC in Women's Track and Field we lost the Big 12 to Nebraska because they had the depth to win it but not the NC. I will trade a Big 12 and/or State Farm Lone Star point for an NC any day.

If we're up by 2 and assuming the Aggies take both track points this year the showdown is a dead heat, with the three remaining sports deciding the winner. Men's golf could go either way but the Horns are marginally better than the Ags this season. Our women's tennis program is currently ranked 27th while the Aggie women are 41st...again, could be close, but the Horns should be favorites for both Tennis points. With Luna on the mound I have to believe we will at least split the Softball point. Overall the odds are in our favor to take back the cup, however slightly, but results don't always go according to rankings. I recall a few years ago the Aggie women were ranked ahead of us in several sports (Soccer, Softball) and heavy favorites but just couldn't beat the Horns...this continued for several seasons so let's hope we actually win the contests in which we are favored.

And Texas softball loses 1-0 vs A&M this evening, in the bottom of the 7th inning.

Luna seemed to be pitching well, but an error by the catcher allowed a runner at third. Single then scores her for the win.

This is a disappontment but our softball team has another shot at them on April 21st and this will be in Austin. But those in Austin that can need to show up and really support our Horns because the Aggies will come here to support them. That 1/2 point on April 16th could be critical. We now lead 6 1/2 to 5.

Baseball team clinched point tonight. Its up to tennis X2 and either the softball game in Austin or mens golf.

This will be the deciding week with both tennis points, the golf points and the second softball game coming up.

We wont get either of the T&F points so by next Sunday Texas will either have won or be facing a third straight year of not winning this competition.

I agree totally FWHORN. This is the week. The Women's tenis play at CS Tuesday at 5:30 P.M. The Men's Tennis is in Austin on Wednesday at 6:30 P.M. and the softball game with the Aggies is also in Austin on Wednesday. We really need to sweep the Aggies these two days like the Aggies did to us in February. We have a chance but the Aggies will be tough. We should sweep them in tennis but it will be close plus the Aggies play us tough in CS. Our softball team lost a very close one in CS the last time so they need to play hard and get those runs and turn it around this time.
I think we got a fair chance in Golf but that will probably be close. Unfortunate I don't think our Women's Golf team is there yet and of course as you said if we haven't got the 10 points by the end of this month we will see the Aggies win or tie us and a tie is just as good as a win for them.

I think Tuesday and Wednesday will decide if we win it on second thought. The tennis points will be hard fought and tough to get but for us to win it we must sweep and we must get that softball 1/2 point otherwise the trophy remains at CS.

Judging from today's results I don't think we will get any points in Golf and of course the T&F points.

Just had a golf match in aggy land. TexasSports.Com title line said 'horns finish fifth in Aggy Golf invitational!

They could have said 'Horns finsh last at aggy golf invitational,,,behind Texas Aggys, Oka State, Texas Tech and San Diago State.

Ladies Tennis point to Texas. 8 1/2 points on board need 1 1/2 more.

Tomorrow could be the deciding day.

Great job by our Womens' tennis team. Now we need to get the 1 1/2 points tomorrow and cinch it. Our men's tennis match and the softball game are both in Austin so let's everyone in Austin that can support them both.

The men must be ready to play tonight because this is no give me in tennis because A&M beat them earlier in Houston 4 - 3 so it will probably be a close match. Go Horns!

Actually, we beat A&M in Houston 4-3, but it was a very hard-fought match. The men's tennis point will not be a gimme, but on paper, Texas should sew up the LSS tonight.

1/2 way home tonight as sotball gets win and 1/2 point, all up to mens tennis going on now.

Horns with 9 points

Although this competition is not as important as the Directors cup and sometimes points get won by teams that finish well behind the other nationally, if they keep score, Texas needs to win it, so it is nice to get the trophy back in Austin where it belongs.

Credit to Bill in Sinton who always keeps us focused on this competition, its a great way to support Texas athletics that otherwise might not get as much attention.

It's always good to beat aggy at anything, but I am most happy for Bill in Sinton. He doesn't get to many games, but he loves the Horns more than anyone I know. His good karma reaches far and wide, and I am happy for this gentle soul who cherishes the Horns and all that The University of Texas stands for.
