The emergence of Bledsoe at DT is huge. Don’t underestimate his impact. It was starting to look like interior DT would just be Broughton and a whole lot of ???????s.
This new big Samoan transfer dude is a welcome addition as well.
I’m interested to see how Bryant has developed. It looks like he has the tools. He’s been known more as a run stuffer than a pass rusher.
Sydir Mitchell has the highest ceiling of any of them—up to the level of another Sweat.
****, March is not over yet.Looks like January has already leap frogged him.
Get him in shape, then see what he can do. We are supposed to have a S&C program...............Actually not hearing good news on Mitchell.
Apparently, Mitchell can't move very well and has a shallow gas tank and there"s already talk of him hitting the portal.

This is one that will be a stud. He's a legacy Longhorn football player as well.Looks like January has already leap frogged him.
wait,Actually not hearing good news on Mitchell.

I’d pay to see video of January leap frogging Mitchell. That would be epic! It would also confirm this rumor.Actually not hearing good news on Mitchell.

It took Sweat three years before he contributed much. He had to build his endurance and skill set, and his hard work paid off. Same may be true for Sydir.wait,
I have high hopes for him.
wait,
surely my hopes aren't shattered.
But after further reflection he has got to own his opportunity, get and keep a good weight to maximize his abilities, to be a stand-up teammate that those around him can count on him in the field of battle.
I have been thinking the same thing. There isnt enough playing time for them all but maybe its a blessing to have options. I suspect its also setting up for some portals in the spring. Remember they all want to play so I couldnt blame any of them.just an observation: We are so stacked at WR. I am not sure why we brought in 3 WRs from the portal. I know we were lacking experience but we have two 5 star recruits and two 4 stars who are impressing. So that makes 7 and then there are tight ends. I guess the cream will rise to the top and we are blessed. Can't worry about those who sulk over lack of playing time. It makes for good competition which makes the team better. Yeah our passing game is in great shape this year and in the foreseeable future.
The huge and fast DT’s are the rarest, and that’s where we're lacking. Everywhere else seems loaded.just an observation: We are so stacked at WR. The 3 guys we brought in are likely one and done. The young guys can shine in 2025.just an observation: We are so stacked at WR. I am not sure why we brought in 3 WRs from the portal. Yes we need a backup center with more reps than what we had last year. Some practice notes from OTF...
- TE Amari Niblack continues to move up in the rotation, as expected
- it has been mentioned again that DT Alex January is ahead of DT Sydir Mitchell when playing over the ball
- OL Neto Umeozulu worked first team LG for the second straight practice
- OL Hayden Conner worked at C again today, but they didn't specify if that was first or second team
**IT mentioned Conner was working second team at C
My biggest concern is the DT/NG position. A nagging thing there last year with the two middle monsters taking over the OL, Sorrell and group should been able to have a field day with sacks.
My hope this year is that Simmons, Neto, Walton and Moore terrorize the QB’s.
We will also lose most of the starting Tight Ends this year (assuming Helm and Davis don’t use a covid year), so the young guys might stay around.
Don’t think Manny Muhammad will be experiencing any growing pains next year. Same for Derek Williams after the first 2-3 games.A far bigger concern is the glaring fact that we haven't been DBU in a while. Haven't had any first team all-conference talent in 5+ years. We've basically got Barron and a bunch of impressive underclassmen, so I think it'll end up being more growing pains at that position in 2024.
I feel like we’ve upgraded over last year’s group both by virtue of the young talent on display last year (which should show growth thru experience) and the addition of high end transfer talent.I think we have something in place that keeps the DL at a healthy level. There's enough bodies and enough talent to keep the opposing OL or run game from having career days against us. We're only improving at the EDGE position, which will alleviate some of the pressure on the tackles.
A far bigger concern is the glaring fact that we haven't been DBU in a while. And it's not like opponents are running the ball at the tick that they used to. Penix showed what a good QB could do against our squad (lost 5 portallers from the 2023 group and gained 1 new starter). Haven't had any first team all-conference talent in 5+ years. We've basically got Barron and a bunch of impressive underclassmen, so I think it'll end up being more growing pains at that position in 2024.
