Spiking the football

Cotton?
Do you think the supporters are this ignorant and don't know Bo is the one who used the phrase, " spike the football" and " we don't need to trot out the trophies " in reference to putting photos of OBL out there>

i wonder why travelling to Afghanistan to deliver a speech to be shown back here in USA on first annicersary of SEALS killing OBL isn't considered ' spiking the football" or " trotting out the trophy" .

I was all for him reminding people he was POTUS when this happened but I think I will start referring to him as Fonz BO

How abt travelling to Afghanistan to thank the troops for their continued sacrifice and service on this anny?

Your hatred of the man prevents you from imagining this possibility, while you and the other cons only see Dubya's photo opps as honest and true from a (Republican) president who really did care.

I agree with Perham. And what is the problem here that this thread was started for? Are we upset that the President would want to go after positive PR on the anniversary of a great accomplishment for which is the reason our troops are over there in the 1st place. This is an accomplishment that we should be reminded of. We actually should be talking about the war and the troops much more.

The Link

Here is a link to "60 Minutes" from last Sunday.

No matter your feeling on the "torture" inflicted by the US, I think it is fair to say that locating Bin Laden was a long, drawn out process that began long before BO was in office.

He happened to "be on the field" when he was located, and did what I hope any president would have done.

I post this link so supporters can see the " spike the ball' reference was not Cotton EJ's phrase. It was BO and at least for this media source it backfired. The Link

but i hope now the supporters will stop trying to corect the OP on the usage of ' spike the ball"

bedhead, 7 key advisers incl Biden and Gates told Obama it was too risky and not to give the SEALS the go ahead, but he made the correct call.

why would you want to discredit his decision - and his alone - by saying any pres would have done it? didn't Mitt say a few yrs ago that "it was "not worth moving heaven and earth spending billions of dollars just trying to catch one person." Obama and George W did just that, and now OBL is dead. Mitt has since changed his tune to try to show what a tough C-i-C he would be, but would he have had the balls to give that order a year ago?

this was a "win" for our side. denigrating it is similar to saying that, sure, the Horns won the NC, but don't give Mack Brown any credit, he just happened to be the head coach at the time.

This is a stupid topic. The spiking the football comment had to do with not releasing the photos of Bin Laden's corpse. It didn't mean he wasn't going to take credit for capturing and killing Bin Laden. Of course he's doing to take credit for it. What the hell politician wouldn't???

This is why I have to give credit to Obama for the OBL killing: because he had to know that, as a democrat, it would be very hard for him to recover politically had the mission failed. Were John McCain the President and had he ordered this and had it failed everybody would have just said "well, McCain tried." Nobody would view it as a failure on his part because he has, shall we say, an enormous amount of street cred.

Obama had none of that and he knew what happened to Carter after our failed attempt in Iran to free the hostages. Obama had to know that the 6271's of the world would never cease to criticize him for the decision to go into Pakistan and the execution of the attack. Still, he did it and that took some guts.

What I find mystifying is why anybody would expect the President to be quiet about being able to check off his list the very thing his predecessor promised America would do - hunt down and kill the 9/11 perps. Sure, GWB kinda whiffed on his commitment but that's no reason for BHO to pretend it didn't happen.
This makes the con team appear small and petty.

What I find mystifying is why Obama thought this was a politically smart move? He just squandered away all of the good will from his one undisputed crowning achievement. Now he looks like a huge narcissistic who does not give credit to the folks who actually did all the leg work. Truly hair-brained move. Hopefully he keeps taking the council of his moronic advisers.

I hope Obama continues living in the same delusional world as you two.

I am more than happy for him to provide material for these type of ads:

Meanwhile:

PARIS — President Barack Obama remains by far the most popular world leader among people in major Western nations and is the one political figure on whom people consistently pin their hopes in the economic crisis, according to new polls conducted for the International Herald Tribune.

About 80 percent of people in France, Germany, Italy and Spain have a positive view of Mr. Obama, a ratio that declines only slightly, to about 70 percent, in the other two countries surveyed, Britain and the United States. The only politician who comes close is Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany, who gets a positive rating from two-thirds of those in Continental Europe but from only one-third of Britons and Americans.

LOL! Please run with that ad. Barack Obama - most popular president with non-Americans EVER! Its no wonder Western Europeans love him so much - he has America on a crash course with mediocrity just like Europe.

Obama should get credit for giving the green light to Panetta. You can't take that away from POTUS. Having said that, the decision was a no brainer that any other president would have made. No one in their right mind would have sat still given the same circumstances.

Scenario:
Mr. President 8+ years of intelligence has finally resulted in a high probability target location for the most wanted terrorist. Using our best men, we can sneak in and take him out with very low risk of exposure should anything go wrong. Can we proceed?

BO said yes, W would have said yes, Clinton would have said yes. It was certainly a worthwhile accomplishment for the country but not the "separating the men from the boys" moment the Clinton commercial implies. The actual decision would be more analogous to deciding, do you want steak or dog meat tonight Mr. President?

The Ad with Clinton saying that if the SEALS had been kiiled or captured think how bad that would have been for HIM (BO ) is not sitting well with SEALS or many other military.

Sat
so Clinton says that if the Seals had been caprtured or killed it would have been bad for BO
What about the SEALS captured or killed? how would it have been for them??

I guess that wasn't important for BO
here is one linkThe Link
and no it does not mention any active duty SEAL by name . Do you discredit what former SEALS say?

Any thinking person would recognize the disconnect between worrying about BO's image and real people who might worry about the safety of the SEALS

or at the very least might mention their safety while we are all worrying about how bad it would be for BO

The serving and former Seals wouldn't have anything to be pissed about had not the serving President given the go ahead to send them on a mission. While it may very well end with them, it doesn't start with them.

On a different note, word on the street is serving and former US troops are pissed about GWB looking like a dufus on the deck of that aircraft carrier.

I don't see how Romney saying any POTUS would have made the call shows him to be flip flopping.

He had previously said of course we would do what is necessary. We just wouldn't tell the world about it first.

BO should be able to remind people OBL was killed while he was POTUS . He should also have been a big enough man/ leader to give MORE credit to the people who actually made it happen starting with the intel .
Hs ad telling us how awful it would have been for HIM if the SEALS had been captured or killed ( and with no thought to how it would have been for the SEALS) is not resonating with SEALS or their families.

This will all be over in a week.
Especially as we see the disclosed Doc the SEALS got that show a weak mostly ineffective AlQ.
