Spiking the football

I have no problem with BO taking the opportunity on the first anniversary. HE was the POTUS

I do have a problem with his campaign ad about it.'It is kinda sleazy since Romney has said he would do it but he wouldn't trumpet it to the world.

I also wish BO would give credit where credit is due instead of it being all about him.
I haven't seen the interview he did in the situation room yet so perhaps he did
But his speeh announcing it when it happened was pretty wrapped up in " I".

yes BO you made the decision and now you have an opportunity to give everyone credit INCLUDING the intel people you maligned when you were still Sen and when you were campaigning.

edit to add
I notice many SEALS have a problem with the way he is " celebrating'

I too have a problem with any leader taking credit for the hard work that the "underlings" actually performed. I'm still not completely sure why the Navy Seal team had to put their lives in danger when a bomb could have easily done the trick.

I don't think the op knows what the phrase "spiking the football" means.

But since we're now in full-blown campaign mode, we'll be seeing a lot of lame politicking on both sides.

Until the repubs get past their science ignorance (creationism, global warming) and their zealotry regardind gynecological issues, they won't be taken seriously by anybody but the right-wing fringers.

Knox, I think in this case it is much better to have boots on the ground. We could have taken out the residence with a bomb, but this way we didn't have near the collateral damage. Also, we didn't have to dig through remains and hope to come up with some DNA to match and hope we had it right. We knew immediatley and unequivocally that we got him.

Oh, and it's probably just macho ********, but I like the fact that he got to look into the eyes of the infidel he felt was so beneath him and that he tried to get a gun, and our operative but two in his chest.

No mystery why you have to go back to Reagan to feel good:

Actually, George HW Bush handled an actual victory in the MidEast better than W handled the fiasco. W spiked the ball in the first minute of the first quarter as though the game were over.

Our political process pretty much requires that politicians take credit and photo ops where they can despite the truth about their actual direct involvement.

As pointed out above, Obama does credit those who did the actual work.

I also agree that having SEALS do this instead of using a bomb was the better plan. Confirmed kill of Osama and intelligence gathering. Further, I like sending the message that nobody is safe anywhere from our special ops teams.

ps It occurs to me that W deserves credit for his low key but great efforts to help with the AIDS epidemic in Africa. Of course, it may have been politically imprudent for him to make too big a deal of it to his political base.

I read about it, Perham. They actually had surgery to exchange neck vertebrae. Pioneering medicine, it was. Quite remarkable.

No, cotton eyed.

One spikes the football immediately after the play, you know, whilst in the end zone. One doesn't spike the football months after the fact.

Spiking the football necessarily includes an immediate time dimension; a boastful activity that is performed right after the act.

Now, if you're used to blindly cutting and pasting, and neither reading nor thinking on your own, I can see why one would get swept up in all this nonsense.

But it's not spking the football. But what else can one really expect from those who are only able to communicate using sports metaphors?

mwa, wtf does that even mean???

shiner, he wasn't "boasting" when he announced to the American people - and the world - that the US had killed this murderous pos. obl had been a nightmare for alot of people and this news was important for us to hear as soon as it had happened.

but as mwa attempted to say, don't let the truth get in your already-made-up mind.

You're still sending out very strong signals that you have no idea what "spike the football" means.

As if what you linked even begins to show that.

But, like I said, I don't expect much from those who can only think using sports metaphors.

I have no issue with Obama taking credit when it is due. He (and his administration) should also take responsibility when things don't go so well, instead of just "blaming Bush"

OK Perham ,I'll spell it out for you. One year ago, Obama goes on record saying “We don’t need to spike the football" in terms of releasing the photos and scoring points in the political arena. Yet here we are a year later and in the middle of campaign season with a seven minute campaign ad where Obama chooses to remind everyone that he is the one who got Osama. If he had not chosen to use that sports metaphor you seem to hate in the first place, you may not be hearing about it a year later from his critics.

But please, carry on with your sports metaphor rant and ignore the discussion at hand as to whether or not it's appropriate.

It is political.

Obama is president.

He can do this as the incumbent.

Sorry, it wasn't "your" pres who gave the order to pop OBL.

Tough titty. You guys have no case.
