Sooner football was an ethical wasteland

Holy crap, must be my age, but I missed just how depraved Switzer and Sooners were in the day. I stumbled across this old Sport's Illustrated article on EDSBS.

All programs, Horns included, have had rough patches with the law, but F-in A, Sooners wrote the book!

This is my favorite quote, "The evidence suggests that the Sooner football program is an ethical wasteland."

ou sucks

The only difference between then and now is there will never ever be another death penalty for a school, I bet OU loves that.

As a kid who grow up in okie during the switzer days, I can tell you first hand how obsessed most of okie was over their one & only showcased venue. It was as though (but remember this was thru a child's eye) everyone knew that OU was doing everything in its power to win games.

Of course, growing up in Stillwater may have had something to do with my bias. Attending UT only solidified my early beliefs & bias. Bottom line... TrailerTrashU has and always will:

For the record: I despise Switzer so much that I still haven't forgiven Jerry Jones for hiring that ****** to the same team that Tom Landry built.

I was shocked by Mr. Dent's books which said that under Coach Bud that there was money given to players and one time when one of the players ran back a punt for a td they had his helmet and put $10 and $20 in it. Most disappointed in Coach Bud if this really happened along with other incidents in Mr. Dent's book.

Sorry ********!

You need to read "When Football Becomes War, Oklahoma vs. Texas" by Robert Heard. It is still in print and he greatly details the process leading up to the decision and implementation of a cheat to win program that began in 1946. Sooner football since has largely been tawdry, scandalous and corrupt since that time.

The f'n state itself was first settled by people who cheated to get ahead. It's the Oklahoma way. So far I have never had a conversation with a Sooner fan where they would own up to their cheating ways in football. They either deny it in part or entirely -or- the more common response is "Yeah.. but EVERYONE was cheating.".

With that history, and their "Hate Texas" mentality, I'll never understand how they can lure Texas schoolboys up there to play for them. If no Texans played for them, that program would turn to **** in no time.
