So will Pfc. Bradley Manning die in prison?

You can't really pick up on sarcasm can you? Anyway, if the government can't do the little things like the Census properly, I wouldn't expect them to be able to do big things like 2 wars properly. They probably don't even know how many people we have over there from what I can tell (or their ages, sex, and race).

what do you want to bet he refuses to get on the operating table when he finds out he doesn't get his choice of surgeons...

Alternately, I could see the government putting up a lot of requirements that go far beyond what a doctor might need in a free-world hospital and anyone that might otherwise have media-whored the opportunity to get press decides it is not worth it...

OK. I can't believe the ACLU is fighting for the government to pay for this sex change surgery to treat "gender dysphoria". Does this mean that "Chelsea" needs to be moved to a women's prison?

That will be their next claim...as it is, the groups that support him tend to want those still packing twigs and berries to be housed with women, because, umm...hurt fee-fees by being around men that know they are male.

Frankly, I'm surprised that anyone is surprised. It's a pretty logical extension of the logic of things the ACLU does all the time.

October 3, 2016 -- Starting today, the U.S. military will pay for gender reassignment surgery for transgender soldiers, a program that could cost up to $8.4 million a year.

The Defense Department's policy states that if a soldier's ability to serve is "adversely affected by a medical condition or medical treatment related to their gender identity," they are eligible for reassignment surgery or hormone therapy, subject to a commander's approval for the timing.

How many people does this cover?

By the RAND Corp.'s estimate in a June 2016 study, there are between 1,320 and 6,630 transgender troops on active duty. Of those, between 30 and 140 would prefer hormone treatment, and 25 to 130 would seek surgery.

The surgery will either be conducted at a military hospital or a private hospital if the former lacks the qualified care, USA Today reports.

Hard to see why the Govt feels it must cover the costs for this
This type of procedure is optional and, while painful, nonetheless cosmetic
There is nothing 'life-threatening' or mandatory about it
In this light, it is no different than breast augmentation, depigmentation or Botox injections
Is the military going to pay for these procedures too? What about hair replacement for non-voluntarily bald federal prisoners?
If the Govt tells them "no," they will have an argument that the refusal is a denial of their Constitutional right of equal protection (which is now in play thanks to the gay marriage ruling)
