So why?

Why have there been numerous posts every time aggy apparently scores on a recruit, but there's nothing about one of their 5-start commits making a visit to Auburn?

As much as a I hate to say it, this Board is dead. If I want recruiting news, I go to Shaggy. Lots and lots of news on Jr Days. Do I like all the BS over there? No!!! But, I put up with it to get the kind of news that I used to get here.

One reason is because, like you said, they are scoring 5 * recruits and we just have one for a visit. Big difference.
And for some reason when anyone makes a Sooner post, it's okay, but if you post an Aggy thread you are suddenly obsessed.

It's all silly message board stuff I guess. And like SA said, we are on life support.

Last week I posted on the Rusty's Grill Paleo Diet thread. After I posted, I looked a little closer and realized I was the only one to post on that entire board so far this year.

Y'all just figuring this out? I read this forum same reason I check out txags. ,no for any real information, strictly entertainment. This forum has long been hamstrung and should soon be gone.

^^^ I have seen what the fab-55 shows. That is where things stand now. Show me on which recruits they have out-recruited us, since Charlie started on his own class (for 2015), basically during the last month. They simply haven't. They have made no inroads on any 2015 guy that Charlie is also working on, but we have indeed made some inroads into some of their guys who had not given us a look till 4 weeks back.

I am fairly convinced that the aggy momentum has already been stopped. We have not regained upper hand or anything, but the recruits can see what the new staff is about, and nobody seems one bit unimpressed. If we don't stink it up on field this fall, you will be surprised at where aggy and us are at the end of the year, when some of these player rating also change.

The point of the thread was why we aren't discussing aggy more. All I am saying is that for a month aggy hasn't done much for us to be discussing anything. Neither have we heard recruits making fun of texas and stuff like that, on account of aggy. There is a bit of a hush and a 'let's wait and watch" from some top players now, and with others, it has been out and out enthusiasm.

^^^ Got it. If there was a thread when he committed, it is fair to ask for one if he decommits. But he hasn't yet. Just visiting somewhere. If there is a 5* who decommits from aggy, my guess is that somebody would post it - though even that I would find rather unnecessary if the player was one that we weren't even in on. That is, unless it is somehow indicative of some issue that has started affecting their recruiting, which again is of relevance to us because we do compete on quite a few recruits.

Not much to talk about. I guess we could talk about how Charlie beat out Northwestern, Tulsa, Abilene Christian, and Louisiana Tech for his latest unranked recruit.

The power in this state shifted about two years ago and, pathetically, DeLoss Dodds and others didn't have the intentional fortitude to deal with the problem. Either that, or they just were not smart enough to get it. The whole scenario really burns me.

If we win 10 games this year and Aggie struggles, the tide will have been stemmed. At 9 wins or less, if Aggie has a 10 plus year, we may be looking at another one or two years -- assuming that we win -- before we just pull even.

It's sad. The two programs really shouldn't be in the same conversation when it comes to recruiting.

I think some Texas fans are still struggling to accept just how much A&M joining the SEC has changed the recruiting landscape. The best players want to play in that conference against name teams and that's just something the Longhorns can't offer.

I'm not trying to shove it in your face, but I think it's something that is going to be permanent. Still, I don't see any reason why both programs can't recruit extremely well and both be successful into the future, especially now that they are in different conferences.

Sheesh, for the love of god, i don't think that recruits want to play for texas A&M just because they are in the SEC, that's not the only reason, its not even the MAIN reason, they had an outstanding season in 2012 and Johnny Manziel brought a lot of eyes as well, He's a stud! I wanted him at Texas when i saw him in hs and i'm going to be honest here, before Charlie Strong, I wanted Kevin Sumlin when he was at Houston. All of those have contributed to recruits wanting to go there, NOT JUST THE SEC!
Texas and Texas A&M can both recruit and be successful in their respective conferences, they are going to battle for some of the same recruits, Texas recruiting fell off because of the lack of confidence recruits felt with Macks abilities to coach and win. That's all. The confidence will be back soon, recruits want to win and Texas can win with Charlie Strong and they know that and so does all the sky is falling chickens from other schools and fan bases.

This thread was created because of " Mr. February" we fell into the trap of our top 5 classes being top finishes every year. One of the best recruiters in recent memory, coach Brown.
We had better live with coaches loving 4 and 3 star guys fitting their system for a couple of years. I don't think it's Charlie's way to appease to a 5 star guy. I think he will take a 4 star that wants to work, and have a chip on his shoulder.
Time will tell

^^ I don't know whom aggy beat out in the end but everybody and his uncle had offered that guy (LSU, Bama, FSU, Auburn, ND, OhioSt, etc). Mack and staff was never really much in the picture with him -- as was the case for them with everybody but Heard in the national top-100 for the 2014 class.

It can't help aggy for a story to come out that a recruit was found with guys hiding weed and smoking in a car, within 6 weeks after he enrolled there. It sounds even worse when it looks like players senior to him was leading him down that path. It is not such a big crime or anything, but this kinds of stories can add up and make parents concerned.

Dat Nuegyn, Johnny Football, Quan Cosby and Colt McCoy all 3 starts like Evans. I can add lots more but I think you can see my point.

bit of a misnomer on dat. if the star rankings had been around he would have likely been a four star. he had offers from michigan, notre dame, florida and texas among others.

and i'm fairly positive that quan cosby was a four star player.

Nobody ever disputes that a 3 star can become a great player and a 4 or 5 star can be a total bust. It's just more the exception than the rule.

All the star system does is show who is more likely to be successful at the next level. A 5* recruit is much more likely to have a fantastic college career and move on to the NFL, but that doesn't mean that a 3* will not occasionally succeed and a 5* occasionally fail.

Also, I don't think anybody at any school really freaks out about players getting caught smoking weed. It's happened everywhere and it's going to continue to happen. I guarantee you that a Texas player is going to get arrested again for smoking weed within the next year or two.

The simple fact is, most college athletes smoke weed. I would venture to guess that at least 75% of them smoke on a normal basis. Coaches need to deal with those that are stupid enough to get caught and punish them as they see fit, but it's basically a non-event as far as I'm concerned.

I was waiting to see how long it would take before we got some variation on the 'it's only weed' and 'everyone does it' justifications/excuses, which have nothing to do with a top recruit being caught in the company of could-be criminals (and I don't care what you think of their alleged crime - at the moment it's still a crime).

Sure, those are factors as well, but you have your head in the sand (which is fine with me) if you think the SEC isn't a major factor. Plenty of recruits have mentioned A&M being in the SEC as enticing. Just a few examples:
