So this is where all the Ranger fans hang out??

I've had family since birth in the Metroplex area, so needless to say I've been a born and raised Rangers fan. It seems Austin and Austinites follow the Astros a bit more, and don't get me wrong, I love Lance Berkman (played with him at Austin High in the early 90's), but I don't get why? I guess it's the bandwagon effect of the World Series appearance a couple of years ago. But it pisses me off that they get the better TV spots here and so on. It seems Hornfans.com has a solid little following of the Rangers, and I like that. Whatch how many come out of the woodwork if they keep up this good play. It's also a made for TV story (the Rangers season this year), 1 day from firing the manager, and low and behold, they turn the whole season around right then. GO RANGERS!!!!!

Well, it appears imo, that Austin favors san antonio, then houston, then dallas when it comes to sports? Perhaps it is because of the distance between the cities. Not to mention there isnt much to cheer about as a rangers' fan.

We Ranger fans are a longsuffering bunch, but we never give up hope. After all, it took the Bosox 86 years to break the "Curse of the Bambino" - maybe we won't have to wait 86 years for a championship in Arlington.

I do think that having Nolan in the mix will help with some of the baseball decisions. And I do like the way JD stocked up on prospects last year. Now if they can just ignore the urge to trade them away for a quick fix...

I keep remembering the Atlanta Braves of the 80s. Recall they were the laughingstock of baseball. They blew it up, traded anybody who had some value for prospects, and rebuilt through the draft. Thus, they were able to restock the Braves from their own farm system, and when they did need a specific piece of the puzzle through a trade, they had enough good prospects to make the trade without gutting the farm system. And their record since 1990 speaks for itself - this would be a great model for the Rangers to copy.

I wouldn't really say that the Rangers have turned their season around. Wait until August before you start saying that. But they are playing much better than I expected them to.

I did half of my growing up near Houston, the other half near Dallas. I cannot stand the astros. I have been a Rangers fan for a long time. I am glad they are playing well. 2.5 out right now is something to be proud of with this team.

I was 15 when the Rangers moved to Texas, and daddy took us to the first game played in Arlington. I have been a Rangers fan since day 1 and an Astros hater since 1961. Count me as part of the little enclave that says, "Go, Rangers!"

Huge Rangers fan here. But before we get to caught up with what they are doing now I have three words for you

All Star Break.

There's always been a bad news bearish vibe to them. I like all Texas teams, but would likely favor the Rangers. Rangers and Ranger fans seem to know and expect them to suck. Astros/AStros fans, think they belong among the elite when honestly, they're just another team in national eyes.

Is it me or does Austin not have a lot of folks who are Cowboys, Spurs, and Astros fans? Probably not coincidently, those three are the most successful in their individual sport. If you are not from Dallas, San Antonio, or Houston, I guess one can cherry-pick their favorite teams. I find it amusing when Cowboys guy turns up the hate for the Mavericks during basketball season.

I find it especially ironic when a fan blames the refs for losses b/c it is an NBA conspiracy to try and get the more popular Lakers to the Finals. Same fan then changes hats during football season and roots for "America's Team."

I guess my question is this, in northeastern states w/out a pro franchise (New Hamis. , Rhode Is., etc.), are there people who root for say the Yankees in baseball and the Patriots in football?

In other states with multiple pro franchises, are there a lot of Cleveland Browns fanatics who despise the Indians because they grew up Reds fans?

rarely did i see a rangers or stars game while in austin, and never now that i live in houston unless one of them are on a national broadcast. so stars playoffs hockey has helped me, but rangers don't exactly get on espn often.

hpslugga roots for the cowboys, spurs, and yankees. he has an explanation but it still looks like cherrypicking winners.

The reason the Astros have more fans in Texas is because they were the first pro baseball team in Texas and they originated here.

I have been an Astros fan since they started their franchise. I don't really care for the Rangers all that much actually. I am not an American league fan for one and they moved here from Washington DC for another.

It seems as though a lot of their fans have the same chip on their shoulder about the Astros as the Texans' fans do about the Cowboys.

I guess if they made it to the World Series I would pull for them as long as they were not playing Houston.

It also seems as though we see and hear this from them every year early when they are playing well but then August rolls around and they have faded because they usually have no pitching. They certainly are on a great roll right now but as others have said let's see where they are in late July.

The Rangers can drop 20 games in any month--it doesn't necessarily have to be August. They can just as easily pull that stunt in April, June, or September. And every season, they do.

Washington was apparently on his way out on April 24, but they didn't want to fire him on his birthday. So they were going to wait until April 25, but that's when the Rangers started winning. Seriously--a well timed birthday saved Ron Washington's job and possibly the Rangers' season.

What a circus they run out in Arlington.

Grew up there so I have to love the Rangers no matter what.

My biggest problem with them is they have never really committed to a long term youth movement. They cant tolerate the pain of a couple of 100 loss season with kids.

But if you can, and you do it right, you have the Arizona D Backs who are going to be kicking some *** for the next five years.

Plus they are going to have to find a way to make the park more pitcher friendly. The whole damn thing was built to appease Juan Gonzalez and its a band box.

I am not a fairweather fan. How can you be with the Rangers? I just like rooting for them and hope they can keep this good streak going. A more "pitcher friendly" park wouldn't be a bad thing.

i'm sure the dallas elected officials will be on board with that. hey maybe they can knock down reunion and build it right there at 30 and 35!
