So it looks like I need a new car

Clarence,
With ford or for that matter GM too, there is probably one car in each of their line ups that's Possibly as reliable or Bulletproof as Toyota or Honda. The rest of their vehicles are just hit and miss, some one somewhere probably had good luck with them but on average they r pos. With Honda and Toyota I can look at the entire line up with confidence that it will last me a long time. I can't afford to spend my hard earned money on a gamble (american=parts).

I bought a Toyota Venza last summer and love it. It is not on the recall list for anything, and Toyota sudden-acceleration stigma notwithstanding, I highly recommend it. Gets 30 mpg also.

Also, just FYI: My daughter bought a new 2006 VW Passat and had multiple problems with it: A/C (twice), paint blistering, computer. Although it was a very nice car, styling, accessories, mileage, looks, etc., according to a VW mechanic, they weren't designed to withstand the Texas heat, which was the source of most of the problems.

She got rid of it and bought a Honda CRV, which she loves.

BigWill,

I'm not going to argue with you and CR is a reputable magazine for a simple guide but my experience and those around me counts more than baseless claims and this experience tells me Ford still isn't in the same neighborhood. and the mustang is the biggest POS ford makes by the way, again, not from an article, experience by many around me who owned them and the newest models.
