So is this the last battle for Obamacare, aka ACA?

CACA to get more expensive according to this NYT article:

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/07/04/u...es-seek-big-rate-increases-for-2016.html?_r=0

...
Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans -- market leaders in many states -- are seeking rate increase that average 23 percent in Illinois, 25 percent in North Carolina, 31 percent in Oklahoma, 36 percent in Tennessee and 54 percent in Minnesota, according to documents postd online by the federal government and state insurance commissioners and interviews with the insurance executives.

...

Read on, there is more disturbing news about this CACA.

Like I've said previously, Obamacare is worse than a single payer system or the public option. The compromises that were made with the insurance industry basically ensured that no significant cost control mechanisms would come into effect, so now everybody is getting screwed.

The only thing worse than big government is big government in the sack with big business.

Apparently the CNN stylebook calls for the use of the word "suspects" to refer to critics of Obama administration policies....

I'm not sure how he can laugh about that. It was a good line, but it was a blatant lie - one of the biggest and most consequential political lies of the last 20 years. Obviously, I fault the Administration for the lie rather than the speechwriter, but he shouldn't be proud of it.

It's because of crap like this that Trump has been so successful. People see such brazen disregard that "elites" have for them, and they want retribution. I understand the mindset though I don't agree with it.

But what really gets me is that these young jerks acquire large amounts of money and power and insulation from economic problems by deceiving others. I really believe that this country is getting closer to seeing violent insurgency because of how destructive our government is becoming to normal people.

I wonder how it is that so many people bought into the idea that you could keep your existing insurance when the insurance markets were very volatile before the ACA was enacted.

And since the whole shebang was set up to keep the private insurers in the loop and on board, why did anybody think they would maintain the policies they had before?

I used to be on the committee that checked out the insurance companies for our firm coverage and every year it changed------deductibles, premiums, coverages, which doctors and groups and hospitals participated, etc.

If Obama had said you can keep coverages you have now if your insurance company still offers it perhaps the people complaining now might have less to feel wounded about

PT Barnum would have smiled with contentment at so many people acting so shocked.

But don't worry, relief is on the way and next January we will be treated to the ACA repeal and its replacement by something really terrific.

Yes huisache, we should all at the same time accept lying from our government and the same time see through their lies. I knew the insurance would change, but I am stilled appalled and it doesn't excuse the liars who lied.

But I am with you and don't think the ACA will be repealed nor that if it is something better will be introduced.

as a long time dabbler in anarchist literature I have been aware since the late 60s that all governments lie all the time and so I don't get too excited about it, especially from people whom I don't trust much to start with, such as Obama. My guess is that he considered it to be a mere breaking of a few eggs in order to make a nice omelet. Sort of like Trump promising to replace Obama's omelet with one that tastes better and has less calories or whatever it means when he says his replacement will be terrific. Am I supposed to get upset when it turns out he is lying? Life is too short.

anybody who took a cursory look at insurance plans and the way the ACA would overhaul the industry should have known that the availability of existing plans was dubious.

I also don't get exercised when "my" government tells me about various threats from foreigners which turn out to be bs. It has been happening ever since I was a kid and before.

I brought this very thing up in here back in Dec 2018

I was just thinking about this the other day. If this case makes it up to the Supremes on appeal, John Roberts has already trapped himself inside his own earlier reasoning -- that "it's a tax." Roberts' original opinion was the legal basis for this new opinion.
Plus, we now have the Kavanaugh.
IMO, Obamacare is done. It is now just a matter of time.

And I am even willing to go even one step further. Now that we have a firm majority on the SCOTUS, we are going to see a complete unwinding of the entire unconstitutional framework that "progressive" judicial activism has wrought. The "Administrative State" and their fake administrative judges are now officially on notice. It will be slow, methodical and comprehensive. Separation of Powers will be restored. And if Trump gets that RBG seat, the Republic is saved.

This is what I kept telling y'all the 2016 election was really about. It will just take time to see it unfold. Is that too much optimism for you on a Saturday morning?

So, Roberts could create a curious precedent: he saved the ACA in 2012 by declaring the individual mandate essential to the survival of Act and then may save the ACA again in 2020 by declaring that the individual mandate is not essential to the survival of the Act. If that seems confusing, welcome to the world of Chief Justice Roberts
Roberts has no moral center. He just wants Obamacare. So we will have Obamacare. :deadhorse:

The Coward John Roberts doesn't really care about it, he just wants the love from the leftists in DC. He'll do anything to avoid an unfavorable article about him in the W Post. So he makes himself look like the cowardly fool he truly is.

All for a group of people who will pray he dies under the Slow Joe Experience. Takes a special type of cowardice to crave love from people who hate you.

Thankfully, he's now a minority on the court. Hopefully Kavanaur won't be such a weakling.

I'm afraid Kavanaugh appears to be siding with Roberts. Hope this is a one off.

I posted about this on the America is Lost thread. Kavanaugh was savaged beyond belief in front of his family. Yet, he is coming across as a moderate Dem. It just goes to show how sick Liberals are. Ruthless. That is why it was CRITICAL that Barrett be confirmed. What Liberals do is clear and we should not negotiate with them. The good news is that moderate Democrats are pushing back on the Liberals and if they do, then one day, I'll vote Democrat again.

The problem is it's not repeal and replace. It's repeal and who cares. I don't like that.

The Obamacare case isn't a particular good one from what I've seen - lots of issues about standing (which is usually a crunch for judges to avoid ruling on cases they don't like), as well as if getting rid by law part of another law, means the original law must be struck down via judicial decree.

But yeah, I do worry about him. As I said before, it's like the scene in the Dark Knight, when the Joker said about the Chinese dude on the TV "I know a squealer when I see one, and he's a squealer".

He's been above to sail behind the Coward John Roberts so far, letting him either take the mild rebuke of the DC Ruling Class on minor issues, or be the hero in cases they care about. Now that we'er Ruth-less, K is on the hot seat as the swing vote. We'll see if he's able to keep his beliefs, or if he folds up to try to keep in the good graces of the Ruling Class.

Best thing any conservative could do for changing the direction of the Country would be to buy a country club in the DC area, and allow the hated minority (conservatives) a place to have social time and play sports and games, without being constantly sanded away by the leftist culture of DC.

Gun cases at the SC will be the insight to this. K wrote before that he wanted to see the SC review some 2nd Amendment cases, and they had 10 or so of them up for review last year, and declined them all, most likely as the Coward John Roberts didn't want to have to rule on them.

Barrett seems solid on guns, so that's now 5 votes for 2nd Am cases, if, if I say, K is willing to rule on cases where the Ruling Class won't like the result, and will blame him, his wife, and his kids, calling them all the most horrible games in public and in private that they can think of. If he was a man he'd relish the opportunity to take a giant dump in their mouth, much like C Thomas has for 30 years. We'll see if K is half that amount of man.

I posted on another thread that there's 2.8 million borrowers in forebearance and 157 million sq ft of office space available. A fair % of those in forebearance will eventually become foreclosures. I am already seeing properties coming on the market where wannabe landlords are walking away from their loans. And Amazon is not going to be able to repurpose more than 150 million sq ft of office. With sleepy Joe likely to extend eviction and foreclosure moratoriums, look for a crash in real estate markets in the next 2 years.

It would be a HUGE gamble to buy rental property given the Liberals absolute disdain over those who take a financial risk.

At some point, the eviction prohibitions become a taking.

bystander, the problem is that any government plan will cause more problems. Having a "plan" just makes US healthcare worse. Unless of course the plan is incrementally removing government control including getting rid of things like the AMA.

The latest fundraiser letter from the Dems.
Obama wants to get in there and try save the last piece of his legacy, Obamacare.
He says there would be no conflict, no reason to recuse himself on any case with his name in it.
(I may have added that last sentence)

I can't believe someone with a brain actually wrote this letter. Their pathological hatred of the right makes them believe that Kavanaugh is actually a threat. Did you read his comments this week during the ACA oral arguments?

And Obama as a SCOTUS Jurist? How much time has he spent on the bench? ANYONE who thinks Obama should be a SCOTUS jurist is an absolute moron and clearly is only about the party and not the Constitution.

AGAIN, that is why I voted Trump. Noticed I didn't say FOR Trump. I voted Trump because a vote for Trump was a vote AGAINST totalitarian socialists who need to be crushed into the oblivion of history as an evil curiosity.

Evil? Not like Satan. But instead evil as power-mongers who will never back down.

Well, we can't back down.

Because they have no shame anymore. See Ben Rhodes re: the Iran deal.

It's absolutely true. They are sick liars and their followers are sick people. They don't care about their fellow man; only to make themselves feel better. So being a Liberal does that because when you have nothing except a massive-inferiority complex all you can do is elevate yourself as a "progressive" meaning you are above personal responsibility or achievement.

You are instead a superior human being without measure or accountability.

My sense is that its not really Kavanaugh they hate specifically (or any other individual). The way I look at it that it is their goal to alter or rewrite the Constitution to suit their wishes. Kavanaugh (or whomever) is a roadblock to them being able to do that. But their real objection of to the Constitution itself, because that is the primary thing in their way. That is what keeps them from doing what they want to do. And, as everyone knows, when children dont get their way, they throw temper tantrums and lash out. So I say that is what we are seeing here. Emotionally retarded adults acting like little kids.
