SNL - has it ever been worse??

I'm not sure if any of you even watch Saturday Night Live anymore - until today I had it on my DVR favorites list. But, it has finally reached the point of being unwatchable. Over the past 25 years there has always been at least 1 actor on there that you knew was going to be a star when they left - not now. And the writing is worse. There is usually 1 or 2 decent skits, then a bunch of crap.

I think it is time to put this dog down.

they need to move it to tuesday night, show it at 8:00 cst and hire a bunch of new writers. i would watch it then.

not to mention that she doesn't do a very good impression. what i've always enjoyed about the impressions was that they were either spot on, or so terrible that they were absolutely hilarious.

I guess some people dont remember when Jimmy Fallon and Horatio Sans were in most of the skits. I mean, cracking up and breaking character every single time?

(note i have not watched it in years)

i remember when as a kid in the 90's the older people complained how it was horrid and nothing like the good old days...

I watched that rotten show even up until a year ago...long past the time when everyone here ragged on it as a POS. It's become unwatchable even to me.. and I have really low standards.

i siagree abobut outgrowing the humor, or no appreciateing the humor of today. the people in the 90's who were saying that the show wasn't as good as when they were younger were correct, imo. the difference was that in the 90's it was more of a skit/writing problem - the actors were there (again, imo). now, the actors and the skits leave something to be desired.
also, i did think 'mcgruder' was pretty funny.

I think it was worse when Anthony Michael Hall was on it, but not my much.

I like Amy Poehler, though, if only because she is married to Will Arnett. Lucky girl.

I still watch it from time to time, just hoping i will see a great skip but it hasnt happened since the "Dick in a box" video...and was funny b/c of a guest not the crew.
The last season i remember SNL being funny was '99.

I need to tell myself it will never be funny again and stop wasting my time watching it.

Sure, the current SNL troup swings and misses a lot, but they also score some hits. I almost always enjoy Amy Poehler and Seth Myers doing the "Weekend Update."

They seem to hit with more of their pre-recorded digital shorts than they do with their live skits. "Dick in a Box" was greatness. The bit about Jonah Hill dating Andy Samberg's dad was very funny. I even liked the "Tour of the Rooftop Garden" bit with Shia LeBouef and Samberg.

I would take this cast over anything put forth during the Dark Ages with Anthony Michael Hall, Julie Louis Dreyfuss, Randy Quaid, etc. Like "Godfather III," I like to pretend that the time period between the Eddie Murphy casts and the Hartman-Carvey-Myers casts doesn't really exist.

I record and scan them as well. I skip anything with Kenan Thompson and about half of the Kristin Wiig stuff. The rest is worth a chuckle or two. The LeBouf/MacGruber stuff made me smile this week.

My votes (hate to admit I'm old enough to remember these..):

1980-81 -- Bad cast, except for Joe Piscopo. Eddie Murphy came on during that season, but didn't do much. EVery cast member was fired at the end of the season except for Piscopo and Murphy. Of course, the next copule of seasons featuring Murphy were great.

1985-86: Sort of the same thing, with virtually everyone being fired at the end of the season. Jon Lovitz and couple of others survived. Notable firings: Robert Downey Jr., Anthony Michael Hall

The Future Missus and I were still a little under the weather from Friday night and decided to stay in. SNL was so bad that we actually changed the channel to MAD TV.

Not long afterwards, we just turned off the TV all together.

why don't they call it saturday night dead!!!! hahahahahaha

why do people continue to watch the show if they just complain? I swear, these posts come up every couple months (and have for many years) and they always say the same things.

the show's always been hit or miss (though there've been some much more consistently funny times times in the series history to be sure). people also tend to think whatever the cast was when they were young was the best.

and personally, i think Kristen Wiig is one of the funniest cast members they've had in a long time. not everything is great, but she's consistently been one of the best cast members.

kenan thompson is more hit or miss, though I really liked his Jean K Jean character on weekend update.

and macgruber is generally pretty good (and was particularly funny this week).

different strokes, i guess...

Will Forte is the funniest on there, IMO. Are they still doing "the Falconer?" --I like that one. But generally, they should just get Chris Walken to host every week. That "googly eyes" skit was gold.
