SMU vs. Houston

Great win for Boo... Clemons kid sealed the game on that 4th and 4 pass break up. Hope that makes him some money down the road. Clutch play :hookem:

SMU's defense leads the nation in sacks. Let that sink in for a moment. Scheme or talent?

Or opposition?

Or opponents?

Maybe. But, since conferences typically are pretty competitive across the board, the players in the schemes used by SMU must be in better positions to create sacks than, say, Texas.

That said, what is to say SMU wouldn't be able to sack Ehlinger several times while Texas doesn't get its hands on Shane?

Is it possible SMU has better coaching right now?

Believe announcer said Ponies have 36 sacks through last night... 36 divided by 8 games = 4.5 per game average - very nice.

That's possible. It's also possible they have more of a talent gap over their level than we have over ours, at least in terms of pass rush vs pass blocking. I haven't watched enough of their games to say if that's actually the case or not.

I haven't either, but it sounds like you are going to defend our coaches and ****** defense and not acquiesce that it just sucks and other teams have better schemes.

You aren't wrong and neither am I, because, after all, anything is possible.

Pretty much exactly how I felt at this time last year.
Texas was 6-1 a year ago having beaten OU as opposed to 5-2 with a loss, dominated in that one, to OU, and needing a last second FG to beat KU at home.

Then, last year at this point, we go ahead and lose 2 in a row and get a lot of help down the road to make it to the CCG we lost to get to the Sugar Bowl.

So, yeah, I felt good about Texas last year at this time having no idea how the rest of the season would pan out and that we would end up in the Sugar Bowl if we lost to Okie State and WVU.

Well, think of it this way. Last year after being 6-1, we went 3-3.

Maybe if we can eke out some more 1 and 2 point wins we can do as well or maybe better? Good teams learn how to win while wounded.

Am I obligated to feel good about the direction of the program if texas ekes out 1 or 2 point wins against the likes of KU? Sorry, I hope I'm wrong, but that and the recommits and reports of fights in the locker room, etc., have me really wondering where Herman has it going.

Up to you. But regardless of F E E L I N G S, a W still counts as a W in the season records.

Maybe we should all "feel" bad for the Texas win over Baylor in 1963 because we were lucky the wrong DB was in the game to make the late interception of Trull to keep Baylor from winning? Get my point?

Of course I felt good about beating OU last year. But even Charlie managed that.
After losing to Maryland. squeaking by Tulsa and losing to OSU, I had no confidence in this team to accomplish anything great.
Even the win over USC diminished in my eyes as week by week it became obvious that USC was not a good team.

This year we have lost to two top 5 teams.
Handle our business and we can meet one of them again.
I know it was Kansas and all that.
But remember that this Kansas team put up over 50 points on Boston College.
Yea, BC is no power house, but it shows that this Kansas team can score points.
So, our defense played horribly and allowed just that.
But we won.

Baylor was undefeated and a legitimate Top 10 team. Kansas, not so much

BTW, the game had two game saving plays,

1) Duke Carlisle's pick

2) Don Trull had Elkins running 10+ yards behind our DBs when Scott Appleton blindsided Trull and the ball fell harmlessly away from everyone. That's right, a Texas DL hit the QB preventing a TD.
