SMU taking it to USF

Sorry, I care who Texas's coach is. I don't want a Barry Switzer or Art Briles type at Texas. I thought that was what separates most Texas fans from a lot of other fan bases. We are all passionate about winning, but with a coach with class and integrity.
Well, I did fail to stipulate that, but to me it's a given that our coaches will not be of the character of Art Briles, etc..

Petrino's players were "successful" at Loserville, not Charlie

Charlie never had Petrino's players, they had Kragthorpe inbetween (who Strong definitely improved upon). Petrino then had Charlie's players for a bit, but did worse with them than Charlie had - but not much worse given that they moved into the ACC around that time.

i don't blame Strong for jumping at the opportunity, but I said back then that "Red is right", he was saying what I was thinking.

Red wasn't right though. If he had merely said that he didn't think Strong would succeed at Texas, then he would have been right. But he went way beyond that. He said that Strong's existing qualifications were that of a position coach only, which was simply incorrect. Four winning seasons out of four, including 20-3 in his two years as head coach at a mid-major G5 school, generally gets people P5 head coaching jobs, or at worst, O/C or D/C jobs.

Had Texas beaten Kansas that day by even just one point Charlie would have been our head coach the next year and we would have missed out on Herman. Too many people were bought in on the "Give Charlie a chance!" mantra. Even after he was canned the media was saying racism even though he proved to be the worst coach in Texas football history. I consider Kansas one of the best losses in program history.
Being 6-6 instead of 5-7 would've saved his job? Speculation was rampant he was already gone before Kansas. Don't agree at all.

I think he would have needed 7-5. The TCU teams that gave it to us in 2013 and 2014 were legit top 5/10 teams who took it to a lot of talented opponents. TCU in 2015 was pretty crappy, and had no business beating us by 20+ points on our home turf.

He deserved to be fired at 6-6 and at 5-7. Surely, I pray we would not have kept CS with a 1 point victory over Kansas to go 6-6 after year 3. Not knowing TH was out there waiting for us to call his agent. This team could be in for years of dominance until the NFL comes calling for TH.

CS looked like a pretty good hire in 2014. He had the record to back up the hire. TH could have been just as bad, his record at a P-5 school was similar just shorter. But he was turning teams around as a coordinator and as a HC. His trajectory was much higher than CS was. Live and learn. Hope we don't make that mistake again. The public speaking and everything behind that probably does make a big difference. IF your not believable to the press how will you be to the team or recruits?

After the Kansas loss I thought the only way he could salvage his job would be to soundly beat TCU. There had been speculation, nothing concrete IIRC, that he was done following the KU loss. The next week TCU whipped us in Austin something like 33-9 resulting in Charlie's 3rd straight losing season. The next morning, I watched the news and the word came that Charlie was out.
