Nick Harvey sticks with aggie. No real surprise despite a push by Texas.

Phew. Never were we this desperate for a 3-star player (he may be better than that though, from all accounts)... But that is the situation that the depth situation at DT and the deommits had caused.

Welcome, Chris Nelson!

Poona also looks good, as per different sources. I think Nelson was more of a worry

Don't forget TE Blake Whiteley, OL Alex Anderson and LB Andrew Beck who are already enrolled for the Spring semester.

Will be two OL with C Terrell Cuney when he gets his LOI in.

It is reportedly a weak year for OL in Texas this year.

Plus UT loaded up with OL in the last two years and about 12 currently on roster. They just need to perform.

So just waiting on the Poona kid right? Time to get them all in and start getting to work on restoring this program!

Sione's brother is a top rated OL for 2015. He was expected to be a major anchor for the 2015 class.

Sione, a DE, was rated lower but was no slouch. Also, he was reportedly tearing things up at an all-star game. They appear to be a package deal.

I have no idea on the grade issue mentioned. Obviously, there are no guarantees for anything.

Another concern with the Teuhema flip away from Texas is that another well thought of 2015 commit, OL Patrick Vahe, may also be influenced. He is a cousin of the Teuhema's.

LHN reports that RB Kevin Shorter signed LOI. He was injured (spinal cord injury, concussion) during senior HS season and it is unknown whether he will play football again. He wants to play again and hopes to undergo a surgical procedure to repair spinal cord problem within a year.

Everybody but one of interest to us, is done. No good or bad surprise flips or anything so far. But we have had good news with one uncommitted player (Nelson) picking us.

Down to the last one that we are waiting to hear from. Poona Ford, the 4-star DT from Hilton Head, SC. He makes his pick in about half hour from now (11:30 CST) on ESPNU between us and Mizzou. That will complete our class.

... And with that we finish recruiting for 2014. A solid class. Charlie did not pull off any big magic to improve the class from around #12 or so where mack Brown had left it, ranking-wise, but that would have been tough to do with just about 20 days to work with.

But I would say that he did rather spectacularly in filling the right holes in the depth chart. Poona and Nelson were the two he immediately started working on, as we knew that Jaycoven and Trey L. were decommitting and we were about to have no DT commits in two years. He pulled off those two commits. Heard was another key commit Charlie just HAD TO hold on to. Went to work on that too, immediately. TE was one where we needed a good one who can catch. Made sure that the guy Mack and Suddes had worked on would not waver and would come to us. Needed to add at least one more good-sized OL for Wickline to work with. And we added a guy like Rodriguez in the last minute. So on and on...

It is impressive actually, to see how well Charlie and staff filled the holes, with no time left.

The ones that decommitted were losses of course, but they were at positions were we have way too many guys like at LB and WR (at least some of them I am sure will get coached up by the new staff). Alaka at LB, Porter at WR, etc. In fact, though he was only a 3-0 star, Sione Taehema at DE was the only one I wish we had managed to keep. The other decommits are hardly of much of an issue except in recruiting rankings, when you think about it.

Tried hard at some top guys like Harvey, Arrione and Soloman but it was all too late to make a dent on them. Wish CS had at least 2 or 3 more weeks. Oh well.

Job well done, Charlie. You got the pieces you absolutely needed to have. Now go coach them, and let's put our mark back on college football this fall.

Hope we can land one or both of those Juco and USC transfers from California to add some more at the QB spot, and we are in good shape.

Whew! Done Deal!

23 in Class of 2103.

1 Ath
4 DB*
2 DT
2 DE
2 LB
3 OL
1 QB
2 RB**
1 TE
5 WR

* Freeman may end up at LB
** Shorter's playing future is in question due to injury. Scholarship will not count against limits until he is able to participate in practice.

Well rounded class with the two DTs added today.

I know we're supposed to be placing less emphasis on stars, but FWIW 247 has us at #13 with 8 4 stars and 15 3 stars. The Link A good solid first class.

Welcome to Texas, guys. Now, get to work.
