Show of hands (Honestly)---who was for kicking FG in 1st half??

Not kicking field goals probably cost us versus LSU too. TH has to mature and learn, but I think he is the right HC.

I would like to see a more advanced analysis of the numbers. Even with a 1st down there Texas will likely have to make 1 or 2 more 1st downs for a TD. What if they have to go for it on 4th again, and then again? Each time you go for it on 4th your TD success rate is cut in half.

Then there's always the chance of a turnover resulting in 0 points, or a penalty knocking you out of FG range. Without a detailed formula showing estimated net points I'm not sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if when all the %'s are factored in if the % of FG success at that spot doesn't come out on top.

We should have kicked the FG the first time we were down there. The second time we went for it, in the 4th quarter, we were down by 14-20, we really had no choice.

If we'd had kicked the first FG, we would have had the option to tie it up 20-20 in the 4th quarter. If we'd have kicked the first FG and the rest of the game had played out as it did (a big "if" for sure), we'd have won.

Herman is a reckless gambler. Like most gamblers, he's going to lose more bets than he wins. Just check out the size of those casinos in Vegas if you don't believe it.

The first opportunity, I'm thinking it's EARLY, on the road, they are playing us tough on D, if we go for it TH / Beck will tell Sam to run - ISU will be looking for that and stuff him....

Result: Sure enough. Sam is stopped short, we get 0 points for the trip. ISU gets a momentum surge and the crowd gets further in it....:rolleyes1:

A lot of coaches would have kicked the FG down 6 with 6 minutes left from the 7 yard line.

Possibly so. We handled the lead so poorly that we might have been better off being tied. But that's still not an argument to prefer scoring fewer points.

This is not so. Even if you disagree with his decisions, they weren't "reckless". In fact his biggest failing of the game on offense was to get too cautious.
