Should Sterling have to sell?

paso uh No I got Kareem's point here

o I need to bold it so you can read it? Unless you think what he said doesn't reflect what he thinks and he is allowed ONLY one point?
"So, if we’re all going to be outraged, let’s be outraged that we weren’t more outraged when his racism was first evident. Let’s be outraged that private conversations between people in an intimate relationship are recorded and publicly played. Let’s be outraged that whoever did the betraying will probably get a book deal, a sitcom, trade recipes with Hoda and Kathie Lee, and soon appear on Celebrity Apprentice and Dancing with the Stars. "

Now reread my post on questioning why sterling's racist acts allowed to go on
and then read this from me, I bolded it so you'd be able to read it easier

so yes let's make sure Sterling gets punished

but let's also make sure the moral outrage is applied equally.

I didn't know anything about Shaq mocking that person with the disability
There doesn't seen to be any national news on it.

It is really a sick thing for a grown man like shaq to do.
.
I wonder how the companies he advertises for feel about this?

It's my understand that these comments were made over the phone and apparently California law does require both parties be aware of and consent to a phone conversation being recorded.

The high road in this is evident, but moral and ethical arguments aside, it does raise a legitimate question as to whether the league can take any disciplinary action based upon illegally obtained information.

I am no attorney, but it seems that Sterling would have grounds for civil litigation if they did try to force him out based upon comments he made during an invasion of his privacy. Of course there's no telling what other skeletons might fall out of his closet if it did go to court. He may ultimately want to avoid that by going quietly into the night.

I do however agree with those who feel that regardless of the legal issues, pandora's box has been opened and the public/media/league backlash is not going away as long as he remains as owner of the Clippers.

MilitaryHorn, I just heard what was probably the same recording. Listening to it, it seemed pretty clear she was setting him up for the public exposure based on her word choices at various times. I do agree that he has no ethical right to own the team at this point, though. There may be some court squabbles, but at the end of the day he will not be the owner, it seems to me at least...

He should sell the team but should be able to get the market price for it, not some settlement from the NBA and they turn around and sell it for 40% more.

The guy is a piece of garbage but when did Americans become such fascists? I can accept that others will have their own opinons even if I find their opinions to be offensive. As long as they do not break any laws or infringe on the rights of others, they should be allowed to be as despicable as they want. I think Jamie Foxx is a racist and a piece of human filth but I don't want him banned from his industry. Provided he doesn't kill any white people in real life, he can live with his racist views.

The inability to allow others to have contrary opinions especially offensive ones is a hallmark of a small mind. I would hope America would choose not to be a country of small minded people. But that is probably wishful thinking.

IF he can be forced to sell, he would be a fool to fight it.

ESPN reporter said that the team Sterling bought for $70 million could sell for a billion according to sports financiers, based upon the number of big-money bidders out there, the recent sales figures of other NBA teams, and the fact that the Lakers luster has dropped while the Clippers have increased their brand and popularity in the LA area. Hard to believe the previous joke-of-a-team could get into the value level of the Knicks, Lakers, and Bulls, but that's what they're saying.

If he does litigate, I would hope some protection is given the team so he can't have a fire sale and destroy what those guys have built together as a team. He hasn't given a damn about the quality of the Clippers for decades; why would be care if he destroys what they have become? He's an *******.

Sterling is a jackass but it bothers me extremely at the outrage over a private conversation, given his history.

Also, I believe he bought the clippers for 12 million. if he was able to transfer ownership, he'd only be taxed for the difference between what he bought it for and what an independent valuation says the team is worth. if he were to be forced to sell the team, he'd have to pay the difference between the actual sale price and the 12 million. that's a BIG tax difference.
