Should Corporations Hoard Cash?

Yes, big corporations should hoard cash. How else can they buy enough politicians to pass policies so they can hoard even more cash?
Otherwise those politicians might give some breaks to small businesses, the ones which actually create most of the new jobs.

great post there

i think it s good to have some cash reserves and we saw many companies go under in 08 and 09 because they did not have it. now it would also be great if some of these companies would increase salaries for lower and middle management but as long as they have the supply part of the equation on their side with all of the unemployed out there ready to work for less, then I just don't see them doing that.

They should be able to do whatever they want with it assuming that it was earned legally and the appropriate taxes were paid.

Um, no. Just no.

Businesses should do with their cash/assets what they think is the optimal business use. I think by its very definition, "hoarding" is not an activity many businesses should ever engage in.

If the government has played a role in fostering conditions conducive to hoarding, then shame on the government.

If it is a private business, then they owner or owners can do whatever tickles their fancy.

No, they can't. It doesn't matter if the company is private or public, there are some limits to what they can do when spending.

The prior poster seemed to take pains in stating that the money needed to be earned legally, and have appropriate taxes paid, then rather bizarrely said that when it comes to spending everything is fair game (as it seems you also say).

There are limiits on how the money can be spent: bribes, for one, (see Foreign Corrupt Practices Act).

Anything that tickles their fancy? Not hardly.

Of course. No one denies this.

I have quoted two posters who have denied exactly that, if we are to believe what they write.

I'm a simple poster and can't read minds. I try to respond directly to the written word.

I re-read the thread and I did not see anyone stating that the law of the land is only applicable in certain cases. I think you are being too literal or reading into things.

I think you are being too literal or reading into things.

I will entertain that as a possibility.
