Shortstop shortcomings?

Ole Miss at bat, man on second, grounder to short, short late on the throw to first, and they end up with runners on first and third, one out, and they score on the sac fly.

Maybe I've just noticed, and I know the shortstop has to at least be cognizant of the guy who makes it to third, but there seem to have been a higher number of situations in this CWS when the shortstop is late to first and the runner is safe. At first glance the shortstops seem to be taking too much time to get in a position to make the throw to first.

If it's just me, a simple 'yes' will do.

If we're talking about the same play, the SS had to go to his left thus preventing him to throw to 3rd. However I thought he got to the ball in plenty of time to go to 1st but for some reason he double pumped before throwing the ball. Maybe he didn't want to rush his throw but with a lefty who is fast, you don't have that luxury.

Overall, I think the defense has been pretty good in the games I have watched.
