Shaka's recruiting classes

It's interesting he put "college announcement" in his post. I hope that's an indication he is going the college route and hopefully it's Texas. He will make millions after one seaon with Texas anyways so why not experience the college life for one season.

No chance Greg Brown was ever coming here. IF we had any chance of landing him (and we don’t) regardless of Shaka, he’s one and done. Texas wouldn’t have been a good fit for him for the one season either way. If he has any sense he’ll go to Kentucky. He’s probably already better than most of the freshman PF’s they have right now and will get development for next level.

According to Jeff Goodman, Greg Brown is turning down a little less than a half a million dollars to go to Texas. Brown --

Just leaving a legacy at UT. My dad went there, my mom went there, my uncle went there. Coach Smart was like the first coach to offer me in eighth, seventh grade. And we just built a family-type relationship since then.

My family and friends helped me through it a lot. What made me want to go to UT is the legacy and the loyalty and leaving a legacy at UT

Very well said. Although I have hope and am expecting more this upcoming season if Shaka does not land Greg Brown then I don't think that this will be a big winning season. Not saying one player makes an entire team but he is dearly needed. Since this Virus has happened even if Texas were to have an awful season Shaka will not be going anywhere as it will be millions and in our current state we can't afford it.

I am now absolutely convinced Shaka will coach out his contract. Football revenue looks like it will tank if it's played at all. I'm assuming basketball revenue was already in the tank with an empty arena every night. If football is delayed or cancelled so will any athletic donations. In a nutshell I don't believe there will be any money to buy him out so he's ours thru the spring of 2022.

I will say in all of this I think it will be interesting for whoever gets an offer for this or any coaching gig next. The hot coaches will be demanding top pay dollars but there won't be the same money as before. Even if Shaka catches fire and is able to salvage his position I think the new contract will be significantly less than his current one....I'm guessing half or less.

And hopefully getting enough of an education to get a glimmer of how to manage his agents when he leaves.

This. Cash is going to be too tight for buy-outs, so what Texas has will be around until the end of their contracts.

If Shaka cant win the B12 next season with the talent he will have, he doesnt deserve another year after this one.
He may not but he is going nowhere. No school can afford to have any buyouts right now. CDC surely is not about to spend millions on a buyout when it can go somewhere useful. I think we are sticking with Shaka until his contract with Texas is done.

Who said anything about right now? Next March or April things will be very different. If they aren't then we will have much bigger problems than whose coaching basketball...

I meant as in the years until his contract is up. I just don't CDC paying any money for a buyout. Now if Texas just does so terrible like not make the tournament then it's possible.

I wish basketball adopts the baseball system of 3 years if you commit.

I strongly agree. Let people go straight to the pros out of high school or commit to three years like baseball. The solution already exists and works in another college sport. I do not understand why basketball does not just do the same thing.

If we miss out on the tourney then absolutely. Hell I think I could coach this team to the tourney. Seriously.

Well since everyone in here is so negative. I am going to say Greg Brown commits to Texas. Since this is our only target I am positive shaka is doing everything he can to bring him to Texas. Shaka knows if he misses out then it will most likely cost him his job. One thing I know Greg surely loved was when Texas students went to his game and held up signs saying "please come to Texas" so if Texas gets one big name out of the portal and Greg Brown commits then this upcoming season might do us all well:hookem:
Well I am glad I kept positive vibes :e-face-tears:

Adding Brown and losing virtually no one will put us at about... 19 wins tops. Probably enough to keep Shaka around and make his buyout less significant.

We still don't have the role players that winning teams have:

Post guy who can bang for rebounds - Sims would be our closest thing but isn't physical enough on D. I thought Liddell would take that step but he was hurt. We didn't necessarily want Cunningham in that role, but it looks like he'll be the glue guy for the foreseeable future.

Three point specialist - **cough**

Guard who can limit mistakes on offense and play great D - was supposed to be Ramey but he makes as many mistakes on offense as Coleman.

"Do-it-all" swingman in the mold of Tucker or Clack - Brown is probably the closest to that now, but knowing we didn't have it before doesn't make me a ton happier.

We'll be predicted to finish 4th or 5th in the conference next year, and it'll probably happen. It'll be a distant 4th/5th though.

I’d forgotten about Clack. Dude could sky.

I have really high hopes for this season, highest since 2007 with KD. Just need Ramey specifically and the big men to play better (and Brown to play like a top-10 recruit), with the depth the best I can think of in the 25+ years I’ve been watching the Horns minus maybe the TJ Ford era.

My starting 5: A. Jones, Brown, Coleman, Ramey and a battle for 5 role between Sims/Hamm

Bench: Kai, Brock, Febres, Hepa, Baker, D. Williams, Liddell

I wouldn’t mind seeing Brock starting, just not Febres unless he starts finding shots he doesn’t like, but point the is that’s a damn solid squad. Lots of potential, just has to be actualized.

Way to be positive
Since when is over trying "to be positive" the purpose of a discussion board. How's about: truth out!

Hey, I'm rooting big time for Shaka. He's been an over achiever in disappointing Hornfans for years now. But, maybe, just maybe, the dice he rolls hits a 7 next year. That would be great.
