SEMI-Higher-end Austin neighborhoods

If he's going to limit his price to $500K, then "higher end" is pretty much a pipe dream, unless he's OK with something like a 2/1.

I'm not following you, Jimmy. There have been many listings in this thread for nice houses w/ over 3k sqft and reasonable proximity to the city. Not quite what I initially thought he could get (since I thought he was going to fork out the same amount of money he spent in CA), but I think he will be satisfied.

Now, if you're talking close to the center of the city, I agree. I can't imagine someone paying 500k for that hyde park house for reasons other than renting it out.

I just don't see Great Hills or Senna Hills or Barton Creek West or Northwest Hills as "higher end". (I live in NW Hills, by the way, so this isn't snobbery.)

I knew this thread would get muddy.

"higher end" is indeed relative, although I doubt many can dispute that neighborhoods like:
Rob Roy, Seven Oaks, parts of Davenport, River Oaks, Westridge, Greenshores. Pemberton, Old Enfield, Tarrytown etc are high end. When the thread is titled in this way you have to assume that is what people are thinking about.

Well, we also started out talking about $1M - $2M homes, which is definitely "high end" in Austin. In California? Not so much.

$500K won't get you into many neighborhoods considered "high end" in Austin, although it will surely buy you a nice house, and depending on the size you want, can do so fairly close to downtown.

Like Dogbert said, take a look in Bee Cave Woods, in terms of neighborhood quality, cost, and convenience it's great in this area...
