Selection Monday

Link to a nice bracket at the NCAA home site. You can click on the teams in the bracket and get info - not a lot, but it is helpful.

Just a little tidbit for the Austin sub-regional. Jenna Plummly (the transfer from OU - suspended for shoplifting at Walmart) is the point guard for Lamar who plays West Virginia in Austin!

It was always a lot of fun to watch her play - glad to get to see her in person again!

Carolyn Peck says A&M could possibly beat UConn....REALLY??

Ummmmm, I don't think I agree with her!

BBV, I think Kara Lawson's points about A&M are valid, though, in that the combination of Texas A&M's fine guard play combined with Danielle Adams could definitely help get them to the Final Four. I agree completely....even though I'm not sure at all they could beat UConn.

Let's face it...this squad (it is hard to call five players on a court a team when they don't play as a team) simply did not finish strong and then continued to struggle in the Big 12 tournament. Sloppy play such as we have seen too frequently this year simply DOES NOT warrant anything better than a six. This is a team struggling to stay in the Top 25 rankings...and it is difficult to say a squad in that position deserves better than a six.

Quite frankly, had we not had been hosting, I question whether we would even have been a six...

doesn't even warrant a #6 seed???.....a Texas team that finished #13 in RPI and #10 in SOS, and was tied for 5th in the #1 RPI-rated conference (with the now #2 seed A&M)

I couldn't wait to get home and see the brackets. I'm cool w/a #6 seed. Thank God we are not in UCONN's region. I really want us to play Duke. I think Duke will beat us but I'm tired of the anxiety building every year to see them play us and then it doesn't happen. LOL!! Let's just play them and get it over with. LOL!!

I agree we probably would have been an 8, 9, 10 or 11 if we weren't hosting. But check this out if we make it through and beat Duke or if LSU beats Duke an we beat LSU and Baylor makes it through and beats TN we could go to the final 4 when we beat Baylor. Stranger things have happened.

I like our region it doesn't seem impossible - an uphill battle so to speak. West VA is a good team. The hard nose defense and shooting lights out TX team will need to show up to beat them.

I'm sooo excited baby - it's time for the BIG DANCE!! WCBB - 24/7 - YEAH!!! I love this time of year.

Frankly, I'm quite happy with the 6th seed. I expected no better than 5th. Given our position in the polls, 6th is pretty fair. Look at our OVERALL record, we got the seventh best record in the conference. Everyone seeded ahead of us has more than 22 wins. They all have better season winning percentages.

Dang, we got another game on Sunday. That's all I'm worried about right now. Winning that first game, not what seed my team got.

Given the committee's ability to move teams up or down one seed, we could have been ranked 5th or 7th. We're sixth with a tough couple of games. But it's a bracket we can win out of.

We beat Baylor TWICE......

Just sayin....

And speaking of Baylor, did ya'll see the shot of Sulkey Mulkey they showed with her DRAMA QUEEN impersonation?
Too funny....

BTW, I already booked a room for Memphis!

I'm with you, I love this time of year!!

ESPN experts (Creme, Hays, Jackson, and Voepel) break down the bracket

Texas related notes...

they all list Memphis as the Hardest Regional

Texas/West Virginia makes the list for Best Potential 2nd round match-up (Hays and Voepel)

Voepel has Texas as the Possible Cinderella

I may have figured out the committee's "logic" for assigning us a #6 seed:

1) There are only four 4/5 seeds; there were probably four BIg 12 schools eligible for those spots - ISU, Texas, Baylor, OSU
2) Nebraska as a #1 seed prohibits another Big 12 team from being the 4/5 in that Region as (if the rules are like the men's rules) conference teams shall not meet until the Regional final
3) So, only 3 Big 12 teams could be seeded 4/5
4) Of those four Big 12 teams, ISU and Texas were host sites
5) Not sure why, but the committee apparently ranked ISU, Baylor, and OSU above us, and chose to "spin" us down to a #6 seed (from either a #4 or #5)
6) ISU finished second in our league, so I understand their seeding; we swept Baylor, and split with OSU; our best conference win was at OU; no losses to our conference cellar dwellers. 7) Baylor and OSU split; Baylor swept A&M, but lost to last place Mizzou (bad loss); OSU was swept by OU, but split with A&M -- I could go on

We beat the Bears twice but I don't really have a problem with the #6 seed. The reality is we lost 4 of our last 7 contests and Baylor may have been cut a little slack given they were without Griner for two contests...I'm not saying that should matter but who knows what the committee was thinking. Had we won one more game in the tourney I think the seedings would have been reversed (Horns #4, Baylor #6). SDSU and WVU may not be the easiest early round matchups but if we can't win these two at home then we probably weren't going to advance very far regardless of seeding and who/where we played. And honestly (though Coach G may not agree) I would rather meet Duke than Tennessee in the Sweet 16, assuming we make it that far.

Mooo has it right i.to. why TX is a 6th seed - those posters claiming we would have been a 8, 9 or 10, had we not been hosting have no clue about how the selection committee works. Either us or ISU were going to be bumped up to a 3 or knocked down to a 6 and I think the committee would have preferred to bump us up to avoid the problem of a higher seed having to play on a lower seed's home court. West Virginia the 3 seed in Austin is quite rightly pissed:The Link

While both SDSU and WVU will be tough outs- we get them at home and TX should have a very good chance in making the sweet 16 for the first time since 2004. After not making the tournament at all in 2006, 2007, maybe the 3rd time under GG will be the charm.
