Seattle/Vancouver

I'm looking to make a trip next February 2010 out to Seattle for a few days and then up to Vancouver to catch some of the Winter Olympics.

Any suggestions as to what areas to get a hotel in either of those cities? Anyone from the Vancouver area know where all the action is going to be? Thanks in advance.

In that price range, there are a lot of good choices. I can recommend three in particular:

Grand Hyatt - 5-6 blocks up Pine from the Pike Place Market with lots of dining options within walking distance.

Hotel Andra - several blocks further north of the GH. Recently renovated boutique hotel.

Hotel Monaco - several blocks south of the GH.

All three put you right in the middle of downtown Seattle. The walk to Space Needle might be a bit much but doable. The Queen Anne district is right up the hill for more dining options.

One thing to be aware of with those three hotels... You are going to pay $30-40 a night to park your car there and you don't have many other options as to where to put your rental. However, with some home work, you might find a deal (particularly at Hotel Monaco) that includes parking in the price. Also, February is a slow time of the year up here so you might be able to get upgraded to a larger room since occupancy will be low.

I'm a big fan of Trip Advisor's user rankings and reviews.

As for Vancouver, I've only spent one night up there and it was in a hotel was the hell out on the east side (Abbotsford) which might end being where people have to stay but it was an unremarkable Best Western that I barely remember.

Once you firm up the trip, let me know and I'll send some restaurant recs your way.

Thanks so much. I will absolutely be asking more questions down the line, including restaurant recs. Thanks again!
