Sam Chasing History

Imo, the difference in Colt and Sam is Colt had a quicker release and was patient and deadly with a 10-15 yard pass. I also think Colt was faster but no one has more heart than Sam.

Sam has had to carry this team on his back way more than Colt had to, IMO. Both have had terrific careers here. Colt won more, but had more talent. I think if you put Colt here the last 4 years he'd be like Sam; and if Sam had been here in 2005-2009 his stats would look like Colts. Both are winners, leaders. I'm proud of both of them.
Vince? In a league of his own. Beyond comparison.
Someone in the West Mall forum would tell you that is an opinion, not fact, about Colt having more talent around him. But, he is a Husker fan, and we owned their sorry asses, so....

No, Sam is not worthy of washing Colt's jock.

Sam is a good QB, but he stopped progressing after his sophomore year. He had a massive leap from freshan (way too many turnovers) to sophomore, but since then he's been the same player. Defenses have figured out that if you spy him, he's at best a B+ quarterback.

I opine Colt starting as a redshirt freshman and Sam starting as a true freshman gave Colt a a better starting position. Colt was a better passer and had a lot more talent around him. Both have the same want to win attitude and leader ship. Colt had better coaches.
I have been very happy having both as QB at Texas.

His history at Texas would seem to suggest he might be able to find a spot at a different position while also providing a team with a QB2 or QB3 option...and then after several years of collecting checks, go and coach somewhere.

After all, look at the way Colt carved out a decent retirement fund even after being saddled with a few years in Cleveland. He isn't starting, but he makes a good living doing what he loves. He will easily find a career in a booth somewhere or on the field wearing the headset...
I was thinking maybe he could join Matt and Brady in the studio when Urban comes to Texas. Or maybe he could just take Matt's place and Texas could kick some USC a$% once again.

I don't know if Sam will come back or not, but he should. As much as I admire his toughness and leadership, he simply does not have an NFL arm.

I agree Run Pincher. I believe most Horn fans can see both happening. As I recall, a college kid with eligibility is able to receive information as to how early in the draft they would be selected if they come out. But how many times have we seen a prediction that a player would be a early second round pick, only to see them selected in the late fourth or maybe even late fifth round. And some end up hoping for a free agent type contract since they were not selected in the draft. Some never make it to the League. I believe Sam is a very smart person, and will evaluate his options carefully. The downside, he doesn't have the hardware to show like playing in playoff game let alone the national championship game, and has not won a conference championship. The 10-4 season and the win over Georgia is about it. On the down side he's 1-4 against OU counting the loss in the CCG. But on the high side, he kept the Horns in games this year either winning late or getting to OT with his determination. It's a toss up, but I expect he would go in the third round at this point.

Sam will get drafted somewhere in the last two rounds and be a practice squad player. It's an important role.

Then, he will learn how a team is run and practice techniques, he will learn how to be a better QB, and then be a coach one day, never playing a down in the NFL.

Or, he will get a job in whatever degree or field he is studying. But don't even feel sorry him, the longhorn nation will always take care of him because of his determination and what he has accomplished as a leader on the field.
He is a most beloved player and representative of the team.

I've seen no games live this year, but from watching the TV, Sam has taken about 10 hits of the same caliber, or more serious, that knocked Colt totally out of the Alabama game (or out of the Steelers game). He probably has bruised ribs, chronic shoulder/neck soreness, swollen elbows and everything else. To say "he just seems off on his deep balls for some reason"--well, yeah, we are requiring him to go all Earl Campbell on two plays and then try to be Tom Brady on the third.

I think that if he gets rested and healthy, he will show a lot better arm to the NFL than what he can do now in what (I believe--opinion) is a chronic beatup state.

Meanwhile, he's using what he has to do what needs to be done.

He's really incredible, and as was said above, he has produced quality amid chaos and incompetence all around him. Colt McCoy got to play in a winning culture, so it's very hard to compare.

Oh, more than that. Colt took at least 50 harder hits than that one during his career at UT. It wasn't a particularly noteworthy hit, but for whatever fluky reason, it made his arm go numb and he couldn't throw since he couldn't even feel the ball.

His deep throws seem to me the worst they have ever been. It seems he has missed almost everyone of them.
They are often late. He waited too long on deep passes where our receiver had broken open and Sam's pass came way too late, giving the defender time to adjust to a late and underthrown ball. And also he did in fact flat miss a lot of throws. I think he's banged up. And that is affecting his play.

24/7 stated last night that he is dealing with "significant" calf and thigh injuries. Not unusual for a fullback to have those.

I agree Sam is playing hurt and somehow it is significantly affecting his accuracy. I hope a week's rest is enough. If they are leg injuries maybe that is why he is so short on his deep balls. IDK, must be painful. Hope he can end the season better. I think Texas can make the B12 title gam at 8-2 since we would knock out ISU and OU/OSU will knock one of them out.
