Not trying to bust on Sam here.
I love the guy. But when I look at his stats...especially this year...I cant help but think what they could be.
He's missed some opportunities, made some real poor throws, and left alot on the field IMO.

Not sure if I'm defending Sam or making excuses or both, but he has been running for his life for four years. I've been critical of his accuracy too, but the more I see I wonder if he has PTSD and feels like he has to pay more attention to his surroundings instead of his target even when he's all alone.

You could be right...
Seems to me he misses alot of throws even with little or no pressure. May be imagining or anticipating it too much

His deep throws seem to me the worst they have ever been. It seems he has missed almost everyone of them.
Sometimes I wonder if it is really SAM who is missing or whether he just does not have the surrounding talent that gives a damn...it takes BOTH pieces of the equation to be successful.

I think he will be glad to graduate and get out of here with his degree. I feel for him. PTSD sounds about right.

Sam would crush it in more of a K State type of zone read offense. Ala Texas 2005. Wrong coach, too much Mensa, not enough common sense.

Sam is a warrior and has done the university proud in so many ways, but Colt is the best pure QB in Texas history (VY is most talented) and Sam is just not in the neighborhood of Colt when you rank Texas QB's records falling or not.

I would say Sam has the most heart of any QB in Texas history. I am sure that take would be argued by some. He's in the neighborhood with VY and Colt. Top three is pretty great.

The quick short out pass has been off lately. This is my biggest surprise. Makes me wonder if accuracy, inaccurate route or what is the real problem but I certainly see a problem. My recollection is that throw used to be a strength. I didn’t always like the call but he usually hit it often and accurate.

Sam is arguably the most talented and definitely the toughest QB we've had since Colt and VY were here and VY just had a magic about him. So, while Sam may be the best in awhile, which I give him, Colt and VY are still better. Both won a conference championship, hell, VY destroyed CU 70-3 in the 2005 CCG as I recall, and both played in the NCG. "IF" Sam wins a conference championship and makes it to an NCG next season (IIRC due to the shortened 2020 season, The NCAA granted Seniors an extra year and can return for the 2021 season) I'd put Sam in the "best of" UT quarterbacks since 2000 category.

Will Urban keep him? J/K, sort of.

I don't know if Sam will come back or not, but he should. As much as I admire his toughness and leadership, he simply does not have an NFL arm.

Well there's no doubt that mccoy and Vince are better than Sam no matter what Sam goes on to accomplish.

It's a shame Sam has had to play under several 'supposed' offensive coordinators.
Just imagine what would have been possible with at least one good one.

I believe if we get Urban and Sam stays we will have a different QB next season.
Does Urban use fullbacks? Sam has plenty of experience with that.
Seriously, I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that Sam is playing through an injury once again. It might explain some of what we see.

Good question. I can see Urban keeping him. UM will probably have coaches that can develop better production from the O Line, especially in pass-pro. So the guys we have may improve, but might not. An improved pass blocking line would help Sam out. After that, it will depend on how well the backup QB improve. UM might bring in a frosh who can set the world on fire, maybe, maybe not.

His history at Texas would seem to suggest he might be able to find a spot at a different position while also providing a team with a QB2 or QB3 option...and then after several years of collecting checks, go and coach somewhere.

After all, look at the way Colt carved out a decent retirement fund even after being saddled with a few years in Cleveland. He isn't starting, but he makes a good living doing what he loves. He will easily find a career in a booth somewhere or on the field wearing the headset...

Sam has had to carry this team on his back way more than Colt had to, IMO. Both have had terrific careers here. Colt won more, but had more talent. I think if you put Colt here the last 4 years he'd be like Sam; and if Sam had been here in 2005-2009 his stats would look like Colts. Both are winners, leaders. I'm proud of both of them.
Vince? In a league of his own. Beyond comparison.
