Well, and by several accounts, Wilson agreed to make an appearance at Spring Training in a Rangers jersey in order to chat with the players and prospects about things like leadership and overcoming adversity. It was the deal Daniels made with him before they pulled the trigger on the Rule 5 draft. I'd say $12K is a pretty decent price for that.
