Rushing the Court

So we beat ou, our main rival, to make sure we make the tourney and keep them from a definite # 1 ranking in a game with an exciting down-to-the-wire finish...and we don't rush the court.

We're Texas.

You're damn right.!

^^^^ Hardly. I disagree. The odds of getting arrested are super duper slim. The fans know this, the "security" knows this.

I do recall when we rushed the floor a few years ago before we "arrived" on a consistent basis and early in Ricks tenure here. We beat Iowa State, I think, when they were really good. The players were jumping around with the fans and soaking it all up. I recall Boddicker going nuts and almost knocking me over. It was a great time.

But now, meh, yell and clap loudly to show your support. Rush, shmush.

You know aggy was standing around the floor at Reed, watching the end of our game, waiting to rush if OU made a comeback.

And I think the Game Day crew, and Mr. Basketball sitting at the play-by-play table, fully respect Texas for that.

We're Texas. We're class.

I'm a student, I was at the game and I'm glad we didn't rush the court. We're Texas, when somebody comes to our house, ESPECIALLY OU, we expect to win.

They came here, they played a great game, we won, we sang the eyes.

That should be enough.

rushing the court or field for anything other than a championship is amatuer at best. teams that are used to winning big games don't do that kinda crap. expect something like that from texas tech or aggy a and m.

I'm fine with rushing the court but honestly I'm glad that we didn't last night. We should have beaten OU and we should have beaten every other team we lost to this year. Really proud of the team's performance last night and the crowd response.
Came back home and watched the halftime and second half...wondered what Dickie V was referring to when he said at one point the crowd wasn't loud...I beg to differ...My ears were still ringing after midnight last night...it was loud.

to each their own...

I probably wouldn't do it, and I agree with the notion we "expect" to win on our court, but if it feels right... go for it. You only get to be young and dumb once. Hell, make a memory that you will look back on 20-years later as one of the best nights of your undergraduate experience.

This is why we will never have Dickie Say we are a basketball school or anything close to that.

We are headed into elite level territory with our BB program but the thinking and fans are still pre-Penders era.

WE were loud at times last night and very loud at other times almost 50-50 I would figure. Go to Kansas, UNC, any big east team and you are deaf for two days after the game. That is loud if you want to compare.

agree that rushing the floor would be a highlight of 4 years to be remembered and laughed at for a very long time. But remember we have to have class and forget all the kids ,18-20 yrs. old that do most of the yelling for our team. Be a kid and get some class after you make your 1st million or so..
What better to do when we beat ou and their #2 ranking in a sub-par season for UT BB.

I'm definitely in the douche camp as well.

Absolutely no reason to rush the court last night. It would've been very lame.

While rushing the court is a "Look at meeee" kind of thing, because the picture usually shows up on ESPN, to rush or not to rush is being considered by the snootier fan bases as quite gauche. IMV, it's an outgrowth of the old DKR line, "Act like you've been there."

It's also cause for a fine in the SEC, as far as that goes.

I think Texas has had enough success that rushing these days would be a sign of decay in the program -- thus, the Maryland rush yesterday, after a come-from-behind, unexpected victory.

Glad we didn't! We're Texas and we don't rush the court!

Mayb I'm being too cocky, but think I represent the majoirity in not rushing the court!

Hook'em Horns!

Let me just say that I think rushing the court is cool for teams that don't expect to win and do. That is not a shot at those teams and their fans but it is just a fact.

I think there are two instances when rushing the court looks foolish...
1. When a fans like Nebraska rush the court after beating a Texas team that had lost their previous 2 games at home and was slowly drifting out of the top 25. I thought that was bush but perhaps they, being mainly football fans, did not know that we had lost three straight and the two previous at home. Perhaps they thought we were still top 10. Or maybe being football fans they just itch to beat Texas is whatever they can.

2. This instance would pertain to us if we rushed last night or anytime in the future. Remember the great Kansas/Texas games a few years back at KU? TJ and a very good Horns team went down to the wire against a very good KU team. One of the greatest games and fastest paced games I have watched in a long time. KU fans rushed the court.... or so some of them thought the KU fans were rushing the court. Problem was, 90% of KU fans expect to win at home and 10% want to get silly and jump around on the court. So, about 25 or so students hit the floor running like mad men and then hopped around awkwardly while looking around like Frank the Tank when he finally realized noone else was streaking. It looked awful and that is how it would be if we did it.

Those 2 guys were funny. They ran out there expecting a rush of fans. They got to the middle of the court and then realized noone else was coming out there. I laughed.

The whole "We're Texas" attitude is why the FEC is a completely lame atmosphere for hoops all but a couple of games per year, and why we get 8K people for nonconference games yelling at people to sit down. "We're Texas" in football, with four national championships and dozens of conference titles. In hoops it's a whole different story...

On the other hand, the whole rushing the court thing is as tired and played out as the sideline Gatorade thing in football....

i was at the OU game in '03. i always sat in the north ozone. still have a shirt too. i rushed the court that night. it was awesome. very good times. glad i did it.

aggy rushed the court when the women beat ou last night.

pathetic.
