Rudy's is Coming to Houston

Considering that Thelma's is solidly packed every day at lunch and in a pretty austere setting, I think Rudy's would do very well inside the loop.

They are moving along. They have neon signs inside. Still need to finish the parking lot.

The sign outside says "Now hiring!"

I tried to franchise a Rudys about three years ago. The company had recently been sold and the new owners weren't going to allow any new franchise restaurants. I had friends and family lined up to invest money. The amount of money it would make would be scary. I would have opened two up near the Goode company locations and put that crap out of business (unless you want to traditional bbq favorites such as eat duck).

I was pretty disapointed with Austin's bbq when I did my time at UT. I found myself going to Rudy's all the time. I thought Iron Works' bbq was terrible, and the place over by the Disch was hit or miss. I'm not going to get in the car and drive 45 minutes to one of the surrounding towns just to eat lunch.

I hit Goode Co and Luling City Market in H town. Good enough.

Well, I just feel like I need to say it.

Pappas BBQ, isn't too bad. I really like the beef ribs, mmmmmmmmm.

There, got it off my chest.

Rudy's brisket--at least the Austin 360 location--is perhaps the best I've had anywhere. I know it's hard for people to think a "chain" could possibly be as good as a falling down small town legend somewhere, but it does rock.
