Romney: I will balance the budget

Just caught the Mittster on TV. I loved this: "I spent 25 years in business balancing budgets. I will do the same in Washington."

Does anybody believe this? Does anybody believe that, in terms of fiscal prudence, Romney is even close to Ron Paul?

I think he can be if he has decided that it's the priority and it's what will keep him in office. Will he? I don't know - as we all know it's not all on the president to do that. But I'm betting he won't submit a budget to Congress that plans to increase the deficit fore a decade or so before it starts cutting it.

Every word I have heard come out of his mouth tells me that he doesn't get it... not even a tiny little bit.

I saw a speech he gave last year to a group of military personnel and he went on and on and on about more aircraft, more troops, more ships, more supplies, more deployments. He's made plenty of Bush Doctrine-ish statements about going around the globe to pre-emptively fight terrorists.

Add in his unprompted "corporations are people" statements, and then follow that with "I'll balance the budget," and something doesn't quite add up.

That said, I tip my hat to the Republicans for being so fiscally conservative.*

* Unless they are the ones passing the laws, in which case they pass wildly unaffordable prescription drug bills, slash taxes on the richest of the rich, start wars under false pretenses that cost 300 million dollars a day for an entire decade, and generally throw my tax dollars away like a drunken frat boy who wants to see some tits throws away beads at a Mardi Gras parade.

Let me take a moment to remind everyone that Obama and (presumably) Romney won't be the only 2 names on the ballot.

People who give a **** about this country are going to have to stop swallowing down the **** that the R's and D's are both shoveling.

Obama also had a majority in the House and Senate for 2 years.

When Romney wins he will have majorities in both Houses as well.

If he does not balance the budget or come close to it, he will be challenged in 2016 by a number of very conservative candidates.

You will be able to forget all the Social issues, the key is the economy and the deficeit for me.

I can't spell deficeit......

Whether a 3rd-party vote is wasted or not is a matter of opinion (I couldn't disagree with you more, btw).

I do know that in the past 12 years, each party has enjoyed years where they had a presidency and both houses of Congress, and both have given my tax dollars away with no accountability at all.

You can keep voting for them, but I'm done.

Sounds to me that you should be backing Newt then, as he promised to balance the budget and he was the leader of 1/3 that actually balanced the Federal budget. He made true on alot of his promises in the Contract with America.

Paul was 1/435th of that 1/3rd, maybe you would like him.

Romney balanced state budgets, albeit it was the law.

Looks like we have another Newt supporter!!!

Bevo Incognito, Just because ALL OF OUR PRESIDENTS haven't done exactly what they promised they would do I'm very proud of America and the Presidents through the years have kept what our founding fathers intended for the country to be....... and that being the greatest country in the world. I still think were the greatest country in the world but we have our current President that is trying to shape our country like the European countries and that just doesn't fly. If that's okay with you then it's people like you that are the problem.

BI and others- At some point you have to consider what someone has actually done versus what they say.

I do no tthink that Romney is a perfect candidate but take a look at this link regarding his term as Gov in Ma. The situation he inherited is eerily similar to our federal govt financial mess today. The Link

Of course the pres/gov cant take total responsibility for success or failure when it comes to finances. However, it is undeniable that Romney inherited a financial mess in Ma and in 4 years turned them into a finacial success. Of all the candidates, Romney is the only one that has actually done it in real life.
