Rolling Stones

Landhorn

First Time Poster
I'm going to the Rolling Stones concert in Zilker Park on Sunday Oct. 22. I think it starts at 4:00 P. M. It's not sold out, but a "sellout" is 50,000 people. This looks like a traffic/parking nightmare waiting to happen. Anyone have any experience or thoughts they can pass about the traffic/parking?

What exactly allows that neighborhood to legally control on-street parking? I used to live in Travis Heights, and my street was a zoo every First Thursday. It never occured to me that there could have been some means of limiting parking in the area. (I wouldn't have been in favor of doing so even if it were possible. A public street is just that -- public.)

I live in Barton Hills and they've organized some neighborhood teens to slash the tires of anyone parking in our neighborhood.

Ticket sales must be sluggish, there might not be that many people looking for parking.

"Been holding out for a better deal on tickets to see the Rolling Stones on Oct. 22 at Zilker Park? This might be the time to buy through ticketmaster.com under the password LIPS.

A package called "The Bigger Bang 4-Pak" is being advertised and features four tickets plus four T-shirts for $99. Expect to add a per-ticket service charge of $13.15 and a "building facility charge" of $1. Standard mail delivery comes at no additional charge."

I haven't looked yet, but who's the opening act?

Also, how will the set up be? I have reserved seats but cant remember the row or anything off the top of my head.

I'm pretty excited

AAS says today that Los Lonely Boys added to the bill.

Some questions:

1. Show starts at 4 p.m. Anyone care to guess what time the Stones come on?

2. How reliable do you think the shuttle service from Republic Square will be? Should I just take my car and risk it?

The shuttles take a long time, especially after the show when all 40,000 people leave at the same time. My recommendation: there is a parking lot next to Mean Eyed Cat and another garage across from El Arroyo. They were charging $10 during ACL to park there, about what you'll pay to park in a downtown lot. Park there and walk to the show. There's a trail that takes you to the Mopac Walkway bridge. You'll probably save 30 minutes in wait time after the show.

You may want to get there early. They'll fill up quickly.

If I go to this. I'll ride my bike and hang out across the river and listen to the music. I sure as heck ain't paying $90 bucks or so to see this.

Heck, I did the same thing at South Park Meadows in the 80's to listen to The Police. We just hung out on the access road, drinking beer, sitting on the hood of our car, while we listened to the music.

Yeah, I'll be riding my bike and just hanging out with friends.

damnit. why did all you a-holes have to pre-emptively ruin a show i was looking forward to. i'm now pissed that i'm flying back in early sun from a weekend of partying to stand in lines and be pissed. that bike/other side of the river deal with your own cooler sounds good.

also, i saw the list of "prohibited" items today. MUCH more strict than acl and will be nearly impossible to find anyone. it's gonna be a clusterfuck.
