Rolling Stone not a fan of Bachmann

1) Receiving a diploma is one form of an accomplishment. Some accomplishments are more impressive than others.

2) Stats- you missed out that I was referring to gpa, exam scores etc.

3) Accomplishments in whatever the candidate did.. try not to think too hard here.

4) High IQ and accomplishments do help prove part of the story, yes.

5) Obama is not a part of this discussion- we are speaking in general terms.

6) So basically- this is a message board where 99% of it is opinion, and I stated that early on- when I said what I think is important to me. So basically, you may have just watched CSI Miami or something- and felt the need to try to Johnny Cochran my ***, when in fact you basically are saying you don't like some guys opinion (mine) - and to you- you connect better with candidates who aren't essentially accomplished academically.

You are left to make **** up when a politician won't release his transcripts. You have to assume he was not the top of his class.

i think what you're incorrectly assuming, brett, is that IQ=hard work. That a diploma paves not just a path for you, but a better path than others with a lesser-regarded diploma may have.

I know a guy, went to US Naval Academy, 4 year letterman on the football team, graduated near top of his class, served in some of the most select and honored roles in the military ranks before going into the private sector. He's got leadership pouring out of every orifice. But, as far as IQ, he's quick to admit that he's no Will Hunting--I've got the jump on him in typically IQ-related assessment--he just tries his hardest and doesn't know how to spell 'quit'. He also has some buddies that graduated with him that haven't achieved nearly what has been expected of them.

I'm not a Bachmann apologist, but I'm also nowhere as quick as some to assume that a pedigree guarantees your rate of success and acumen as a leader.

That all being said, Rolling Stone is a withered shell of what it used to be. They should stick to reviewing albums and writing about how Keith Richards has given death the middle finger for so long.

I remember a guy who went to Harvard for undergrad and then earned a PhD in Mathematics from Michigan. The dude was extremely smart and driven. His thesis was unbelievably impressive and probably 10 people in the US could fully understand it. Anyway, the guy went on to have a successful academic career and I guess if given the opportunity would have loved to have run the country. It would be special to find someone like him.

evidence:
he was a community organizer
he is a pathological liar

"Barack Obama has not released transcripts for his grades from Occidental College, Columbia University and Harvard Law. He has also not released his SAT and LSAT scores. No explanation has been offered for not releasing them.
Per the Wall Street Journal September 11, 2008, "Obama's Lost Years," Obama graduated from Columbia University (to which he transferred after his first two years at Occidental College in California), with a degree in Political Science without honors, so had a GPA less than a 3.3. His roomate Sohale Siddiqi indicated Obama itially felt alienated, felt "very lost," and used drugs to get high, which could have led to low grades initially. The roomate indicates that he then turned serious and "stopped getting high." Obama transferred to Columbia because he was concerned with urban issues. Based on his overall undergraduate GPA of less than a 3.3, Mr. Obama's admission to Harvard Law School may reflect affirmative action statutes, low grades early, then higher grades later (purely speculation) and/or other factors.

At Harvard Law School, Obama graduated Magna Cum Laude, which, according to the Havard Law School website, is awarded to the top 10% of Harvard Law School students.

Also at Harvard Law School, Obama was accepted as one of 85-90 Editors of the Harvard Law Review, out of an estimated 1,000 students from the 2L and 3L classes that might have sought this honor. Obama was also elected President of the Law Review, which according to a Harvard Law spokesperson is not based at all on academics, but on other measures as would occure in any club."

so you have established that he graduated in the top 10% of his class at the most prestigious law school in the country.

Anyone with a brain would conclude he was more than "an average student".

Other than John McCain's self disclosed relatively low academic ranking among U.S. Naval Academy grads, I don't know the academic record of any presidential candidate now or forever in the past. Obviously they tell you that after you've been out of school a few years, it's what you've accomplished that matters. Why is anyone so curious about Obama's grades, escpecially since what's easily known and verified from his record show that at least academically he is very bright and very accomplished?

She's an absolute crazed train-wreck and what's much worse, is there are thousands of clueless and brainless people in this country who will blindly follow this lunatic due to the fact she's, "chosen by God."

I'd rather graduate last in my class at Harvard than top of the class at Idaho State- but, that's me.

And yeah Bronco- I am saying the typical Stanford student IS smarter than the typical Idaho St. student. Because- if the Idaho State student skipped Stanford because of his girlfriend, or ("cost") as you noted- and is too retarted to understand what FAFSA is or dozens of other low interest loan programs that his future Stanford job would easily help him pay off- yeah, the Idaho St. guy is not that smart.

And no- I never ever said smarts or IQ= hard work- that is totally different.

Some of these responses are a bit emotional here from you guys- it's like reading insecurities about our education. None of my beliefs are absolute- there are outliers at every school both good and bad- but in general I absolutely will take the Stanford/Harvard guy for almost anything over the local POS university.

........................................................................................................., ".........."

Hey......you're right.

That said, sorry if you happen to be one of the unfortunate thousands I alluded to previously.

well said, Bronco.

my cousin graduated top of his class at Colorado State, and that sob is undoubtedly as intelligent as just about anyone at Stanford, in my opinion. Sure, it's no Idaho State, I guess.

and FYI, brett, I'm not one of the ones here you may think are insecure in my educational past. I graduated from The University of Texas, and to hell with any Ivy League school.
