Rockets/Lakers Game 2

Kobe's elbow to the throat looked accidental to me - it's where his hands would normally be while rebounding. His knee/elbow of Battier in game 1 was clearly on purpose though, so it wouldn't surprise me if I somehow found out that he actually did this on purpose, too.

Funny thing is, Kobe's elbow wasn't even to Artest's throat. It was an elbow to the chest. Not sure if Ron-Ron was just trying to sell an elbow to the throat to get sympathy, or if he was really making a "throat slash" to Kobe (I think that's what got him ejected) and came up with the elbow-to-throat story later.

That aside, last night's game was one of the most entertaining playoff games I've see in a while and I hope game 3 delivers more chippy playoff basketball.

BTW, someone nailed it earlier about the 4th quarter officiating. Atrocious.

A few posts above someone mentioned the only thing the Rockets have done is Scola getting into someones face. BS on that...No one seems to remember that Odom was in Luis face the entire game leading up to that point. The Most Interesting Man in the World had enough and the minute he even says one thing the Lakers act like the world is ending (much like every time Kobe either makes a basket or gets called for a foul).

I agree. It never looked to me like he made contact to the throat. The fact that Artest never seem injured but rather decided to turn and run to the officials was also laughable. Then the "fans" on here run to the interweb and start up the same diatribe that Ron Ron has been passing on to the refs that he got hit in the throat.....I too call BS on that one. If Ron Ron is Ron Ron then why didn't he just get in Kobe's face right away? B/c Kobe is in his head.

To me this is just playoff basketball. I remember watching the Knicks try and disable Jordan every time he drove to the basket before he finally got a cast of teammates that could help him out. The Suns were getting physically abused by the Spurs in recent years and this gave them a psychological edge that Phoenix could never overcome.

The refs will be watching much more closely going forward. Anything that happens like this going forward will be a technical right away or worse. Nobody has even mentioned on here the fact that Ron Ron made the cut off your head gesture which is ultimately what got him thrown out of the game. Perhaps if he hadn't gone into the stands in his past and started a riot the refs would give him the benefit of the doubt and just T him up. But since we all know who he is they had to throw him out of the game.

Defending Kobe is ridiculous. Whether he did or did not make contact with Artests throat doesnt excuse the fact that Kobe threw a high elbow without even looking. The intent was clearly there.

Its playoff basketball. Elbows like that get thrown. It wasn't a "head hunting shot" so much as it was a "get off my freakin back" shot. Kobe could have/should have been whistled for the foul had the refs seen it. Big freakin deal. Get over it already.
