Ranks Mack at # 10

10. Mack Brown, Texas
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Brown sometimes is derided for not winning enough, but his Longhorns currently enjoy a streak of seven consecutive 10-win seasons – longest in the nation. Texas is fertile recruiting territory and Brown generally gets his pick from the state.

Not sure I would have Beamer (no. 7) ranked higher than MB. That team gets more credit for actually doing less than just about any other team. Except maybe Georgia, who is annually overrated and never wins the SEC. Which is why I wouldn't put Richt at No. 6. I know, I know, the SEC is sooooo tough. That didn't keep Florida and LSU from wining it all.

Can't really argue with Tressel and Carrol as 1 and 2, but its cool that MB is 2-1 against those guys.

There should not be a coach on that list that has not won a MNC ahead of Mack, period. Furthermore, Les Miles gets his pants coached off everytime he faces Mack, so forgive me if that is STUPID too.

Mack wins every year and has a MNC to boot. Definitely Top 5. The only coaches who are definitely ahead of him are Carol, Tressel & Stoops. After that Mack is as good or better than anybody.

Les Miles also just coached the most talented team in the country to TWO LOSSES and if not for media love would have blown their chance at a MNC.

Les Miles also made one of the stupidest calls in college football that he got really lucky he survived. Les Miles does not face Bob Stoops every year either, who most admit is a better coach than Mack. Other than Bob Stoops, Mack has dominated.

I'm amazed at how easilly people overlook the fact that Mack has more wins over the last decade than any coach on the planet and coached one of the best teams in college football history. But Les Miles has a 2-loss national championship, so he must be a better coach.

Behind Tuberville? Grobe? Beamer? Richt? Mack won a national championship two years ago==these people have a short memory. All Beamer's teams do is lose at least two games a year and block fewer punts.

Ranking Miles ahead of Mack based on last year, whatever, you can say there is an argument, but the other four are ridiculous. That argument is weak because LSU's "championship" last year is always going to be marred by two losses, which means that their selection into the "championship" game was the result of the BCS formula. Two L's is two L's.

I think Mack has probably had 4 teams better than Miles' NC team. That had to be the worst group of elite teams college football has seen in a while.

On accomplishments (ie: what counts) Mack should be #3. Even if you're going to throw some opinion in there, the only other guy I buy being ahead of him is Meyer, and I'd say that had the Big 12 not had any other elite programs Mack would have done just as well Tressel has in the big 10. (which is pretty much the Big 12 minus Oklahoma)

Dallas there is a difference in being out coached and losing to a team with much more talent than you have.
A couple of years ago I watched a UT game against North Texas where Mack did not out coach UNT but North Texas lost the game because of UT's talent. Les Miles was out-coached against UT, and has been out coached several times since being at LSU.

Personally, i think Mack is a better coach than Miles. But, if some of yall are saying that Mack had a couple of down years with talent than he isnt the recruiter that many say he is (coach Feb). We gotta pick one. Either he isnt a top 5 coach or he isnt a top 5 recruiter.

My school of thought is he isnt a top 5 recruiter consistently. You dont have down years 2 years in a row. I know we have had some off field issues but so what, other teams have them too. I dont care what the recruiting gurus say, blOu raped Mack in recruiting last year with the top 3 guys (past include AD, and 2 stud DTs, and many others). IF Mack's philosophy is to get all the best talent in the state and not go out of state 99% of the time then you better lock down all the best in state or get some talent outside to supplement. We have no competition in the state of Texas so we Should be able to get who we want with this philosophy.

Also, I dont think Mack is a top 5 coach. If we want to mention it or not, it is a plain fact that Mack has gotten it handed to him by Bob. Big 12 is a damn good conference, i think the 2nd best. But Mack has lost to Fran 2 years in a row(almost 3) and also to hold your breath here Ron Prince 2 years in a row. Miles has yet at LSU to claim that. Mack has lost in the past to teams that he simply should not have lost to (CU big 12 title game, Stanford, NCSt, Wash st, TT,). All coaches do and Miles will also, and has this past year. But coaching talent is a bit better in the sec. I think LSU was talented but not what many on this board seem to think. Matt Flynn was their starter and did not and should not have gotten drafted and they won. Matt Flynn is not that talented guys. Did they deserve to be there? Does it matter? they were. Great DL and good LBs and OL, WR/RB/CBs were decent.

With all that said. I think Mack Brown is an awesome coach. He WINS the right way. He genuinely cares for his players not just winning (can be good or bad for some people). He is clearly and easily a top 10 coach and a top 10 recruiter. All coaches lose games they should not (Carroll, Tressel, even Miles last year and prior).
Some of you say this list should be determined by how many titles someone has. Well why not conf titles, and bcs appearances. If (and i hope) Mack is around the next 8 years he needs to win at minimum 3 Big 12 titles. He should have the same hardware that Bob does, period. Even with Big Red helping out the sooners. It took Paterno, Bowden and Spurrier a while to win at their schools but that is not an excuse. Saben, Stoops, Tressel and other have won a title within 2-3 years. I feel Richt is following Macks path at UGA. But my biggest thing is that we dont have enough conf. titles. I feel we will soon, including this year.

This list will change every few years, if not every year. Things fall your way sometimes and others they dont. Personally if a team is cheating their coach should not be there anyway, so that eliminates Bob and Pete for sure, maybe more. I am very happy Mack Brown is our football coach at The University of Texas at Austin. I think he will win another MNC at this university but he must not lose that 1 game every year (usually other than ou) that keeps him out of the bcs. There are about 5 maybe max 10 plays in the past 10 years that if they went our way, our history and Mack's history would be very different. From something bad such as that int that was returned vs colorado in the big 12 title game to something good such as the 3rd and 30 vs Kansas (i believe) or the what should have been TD vs Aggies a couple of years ago (goal line fumble returned the other way).

As an aside you can infuriate LSU fans by saying last year's title didn't count because of the two losses.

It makes no difference whether it is true or false, I mean who cares?

Just deliver it in a deadpan tone of complete assurance and then look shcoked that they don't agree.

Add in 'seriously?' with raised eyebrows when they protest.

Surefire fun.

Why do so many of yall have to belittle and put down LSU and coach Miles ? They are a great team and should be given their due credit. The jealousy and envy from people on here is childish. As far as I am concerned a MNC is a MNC. They have had more success recently than we have had, great and good fro them. Texas can have that too with Mack and Mushchamp. Having said that, they are both good coaches. Oh and by the way, the "winning with other coaches players" is rdiculous. Sabans and Miles success at osu/msu/miami vs their success at LSU; clearly the building went both ways. Like another poster said this list will change from year to year.
