My 98-year-old grandfather passed yesterday morning. He was a proud man who held his own (he even still drove!) until two years ago when he broke a hip in a fall and began his decline.
He was a mechanic who brought his wife and five children to Texas from Mexico in 1957. He saw to it that ALL FIVE graduated college (one Horn, two Aggies and two from TWU in Denton). They became engineers and teachers, of which one is my mother.
Voy a extrañarte, Abuelito.
