RIP, Albert Hofmann, Father of LSD

I heard that if you take LSD seven or more times, you're legally insane. And the strichnine in it makes it stay in your spine forever and give you flashbacks. That's why the Air Force does a spinal tap on you if you want to be a pilot -- the high Gs compress your spine and release the acid into your brain, which is bad news if you're bombing ****.

Picture yourself in a boat on a river,
With tangerine trees and marmalade skies
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly,
A girl with kaleidoscope eyes.

Cellophane flowers of yellow and green,
Towering over your head.
Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes,
And she's gone.

Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Ah... Ah...

{VERSE 2}
Follow her down to a bridge by a fountain
Where rocking horse people eat marshmallow pies,
Everyone smiles as you drift past the flowers,
That grow so incredibly high.
Newspaper taxis appear on the shore,
Waiting to take you away.
Climb in the back with your head in the clouds,
And you're gone.

{REFRAIN}

Picture yourself on a train in a station,
With plasticine porters with looking glass ties,
Suddenly someone is there at the turnstile,
The girl with kaleidoscope eyes.

One of the most interesting and enlightening conversations on drugs and drug use was at a Thanksgiving one year. A co-workers mom is a pharmacologist for the DEA. This is when I was living in D.C. She gave straight scoops on things and her professional opinons.

She broke it down like this, short summary:

LSD, a bunch of hype by the government, not one clinical death unless by idiot that would have drown in a bathtub, jumped in front of a bus or something like that.

The one drug she would try if she could, minus the horrific side affects, quick addiction etc...Heroin. And she would never try it cause it is so brutal.

The one drug she would never try and wishes that it were not around, the homemade, non-clinical grade/purity MDMA, ecstacy. Horrible the things she had seen and read about.

She was pro-legalization of many things. For the illegality of others. Very fascinating, from the source discussions. Believe the hypes of LSD if you want to, we cannot change your opinion nor should we try. But just remember the time frame when this propaganda came out and why the Gov't was so against it...they could not use it the way they wanted to.

I have always been scared about hallucinogens and have never tried the stuff. I would freak out if I had a bad trip. No doubt the government has hyped the bad effects of all sorts of drugs. Cocaine and marijuana are illegal mainly because of racism and fear of black men raping white women while high.

I knew this couple in the '70's and their house got searched for some reason, and the cops took their coffee table book, "Joy of Sex," saying it was pornographic. They were quite upset about this.
Later I found out why they were so upset. The book had a bookmark, a piece of paper with 1000 microdots of acid on it. They were paranoid for a while, but the police never discovered it.
I never tried LSD, but many people I knew did, and I didn't know anyone who suffered an injury or permanent bad effect from it. I just wasn't that daring.

I was right in the middle of a ******* reptile zoo, and somebody was giving booze to these ******* things. Won't be long now before they tear us to shreds.

I worked in several psychiatric hospitals in the late 60's and early 70's. I saw numerous kids who required psychiatric hospitalization secondary to LSD. Some of them shook it off, some got better but had mild residual, and some became disabled, requiring months of hospitalization and leading a marginal lifestyle thereafter. There was likely a predisposition to psychiatric illness that was catalyzed or kick started by the drug. Perhaps it was because, as Alum03's source suggests, the doses taken back then were higher. Some people seemed to be able to take larger doses and come back fine. For some, one dose ****** them up good.

I'm not an anti-drug zealot, but to suggest that LSD is without consequence is simply incorrect, and naive. Plenty of kids from my generation played Russian Roulette with LSD, and some of them lost.

I believe strychnine is a contaminant left in the product when processing mescaline. It may even occur naturally in the peyote cactus itself...can't remember my chemistry.

there are cases where lsd has gone wrong in people but i think we can say the same thing about all drugs including alcohol.

i tried it as a younger lad a few times and it was cool but something i never wanted to continue because i don't enjoy not having control of my mind for about 3-6 hours.

if anything, i'm sure my experience with this stuff will show up in my parenting skillz.
