Game starts at 7:35 as the prior game pushes back the starting time.

Dillon Peters gets the start because Rice has multiple lefty hitters in their batting order I heard.

He lines one to B. Marlow his opposite at second for Texas for the first out.

The count runs full on Hoelsher who lines one fair past McGuire down the third base line. Johnson fields it off the cut out and fires a throw that beats the runner but he is ruled safe as the ump says that Hinojosa missed the tag.

It's ruled a double.

Peters back on the hill faces the bottom of the order.

Cook leads off for Rice and grounds out to second for one away.

The centerfielder Williamson tries to bunt his way aboard, but it goes back to Peters for a 1-3 second out.

The top of the Rice order Stainback back up. The count runs full to him and he does what many have done tonight by grounding out to first as Clemens has had a busy night there.

Rice goes down in order again and to the bottom of the third we go still without a tally on the board.

Come on Horns. Get some Hits!!!

Chase McDowell is the new Rice pitcher for some reason in the third a righty. It didn't appear anything happened physically to Stephens.

Gurwitz batting ninth for Texas leads off having never faces the starter for Rice.

He swings and misses for a K, but the pitch gets by the catcher to the backstop and Gurwitz reaches on the wild pitch.

B. Marlow bunts him over to second for the sac.

McGuire follows and as expected bunts to move the runner over.

Barrera up trying break up the scoreless tie and out of a slump slices a high breaking pitch down the line in right for a rbi double.

Texas takes a 1-0 lead.

Johnson up tries to keep the rally going with now Barrera in scoring position.

He thinks an insdie pitch got him but it didn't according to the ump.

So he hits one off the wall in the gap in left center just a foot below the yellow home run wall for another rbi double.

Texas goes out now to a 2-0 lead.

Gurwitz up and Johnson steals third again without a throw.

Peters with six K's on the night faces Kopycinski with one on and one away.
He grounds one up the middle that Marlow has deflect off his glove directly to Hinojosa at the bag. He picks it up on the bag and relays to first for an unusual 4-6-3 double play to end the inning. Anyway you can get I guess.

Sure looked like he got back safely and replays show he did.

He is still going back to the dugout though and Payton bats now with two down and the bases empty.
He runs the count to the breaking point then chops back to the mound and is retired 1-3 to retire the side.

Nothing doing for the Horns despite the lead off hit. They still lead though 2-0 after seven innings gone.

Barrera grounds out short to retire the side.

The ninth is on the way with probably a new Texas pitcher trying to save the game for Peters.

Texas leads 2-0.

Umps must be hungry or tired or both, 2 close calls (1 against Texas, 1 against Rice) late in the game were both called strikes.

Thornhill in to close for Peters.

Leading off the Rice ninth is Hoelsher and he K's swinging for a big out one.

Ewing lines out to left for the second out.

Aquino keeps the game alive by lining a single to right.

Reeves singles to left and that puts runners on the corners.

Teykl pinch hits now as trouble brews and here comes Skip for a visit and now returns to the dugout.

Teykl walks to load the bases as we get down to cases.

Fox another pinch hitter a lefty finally K's on an inside corner change to end the game.

Texas survives the two out rally and wins 2-0.

A close shave there, but a very nice win and doesn't waste Peters great game.

The usual MO for Texas is again present in a win.

Absolutely great starting pitching with just enough hitting and great fielding.

Somewhere along the way Texas gets out of a big jam, this time in the ninth.

It's a really good win over a quality team in their home city even if on a neutral field.

Though French is outstanding too it is pretty obvious that Peters is the ace of this staff. He just brings it game after game.

Thornhill is still kind of shaky as the closer and Schiraldi needs to be consistent as a third starter.

If John Curtis can come back strong and also Ty Marlow, this team will be a true force to reckon with if the bats could just lend a helping hand.

Went to the game with my dad tonight. It was great to see the Horns win, but it would've been nice to not load the bases at the end. It was also kind of weird that Graham put a guy in to pinch hit with the bases loaded and two outs that hasn't garnered a hit all season.

Thanks for the summary. I was able to watch only a few of the innings on the LHN. Your overview helped me understand the flow of the game. That last inning was a nail biter.....
