Does anyone know when he had the surgery, and are there any updates? I know that after La Tech they were talking about possibility availability late in the season. He does need to fully heal. Wouldn’t we love to know the medical diagnosis. Can the problem be fixed once and for all...?

He had no forward progress.

If the "sacker" pushes the quarterback backwards and then brings him down, then the forward progress is the spot where he first hit the QB.

Like if a receiver catches a pass beyond the first down line, then immediately gets driven backwards, he still gets the first down and the next play starts from the spot of the catch. If he runs back behind the line of his own accord trying to risk it for a bigger gain and then gets tackled, then he does lose those yards.
