Regional Projection

Perhaps colleyville as a 2? Can they host the Super IF they can win the regional? Hell YES. Hook ‘em!

We can take on Tennessee and Wake Forest. Same with aTm. Just keep us away from Duke.

I don’t like our match up with Arkansas either. Not at all.

The final bracket projections: Baseball America has Texas as a 2-seed in the Chapel Hill regional (#7 North Carolina hosting) while D1 Baseball has us as a 2-seed in the Collie Station regional (#4 aggy hosting). It would be particularly painful to be eliminated by aggy, but maybe that's what it will take to wake up CDC and our big money donors to the fact that we're not SEC ready.

Consulted the Magic 8 Ball to see if we’ll be celebrating victory over aggy and eating all their Blue Bell this coming Sunday.

It would be an epic meltdown if aggy loses. Even funnier if we beat them in the losers bracket.

Unfortunately, no run-rule will be in effect. Hopefully, the Cajuns will hold some back for their second game (v. aggy).

At this point, I am not sure Texas has enough backbone to put in any type of effort against Grambling. At least a loss to Grambling would make CdC's decision a lot easier.

Well, I know you can't base a book off 3 pages, but the like opponent is Texas state who the Cajuns swept and we didn't. FWIW they also already beat Grambling (the other team in our region) 12-4.

Over at Texags they're already debating their likely opponent for the Super and asking about hotels/restaurants in Omaha. I'm amused by their overconfidence, but maybe this time they'll be right? For the record, many over there don't think they'll even play us this weekend, and think Louisiana Lafayette will beat us twice.

They actually have reason to be confident this time, but one thing I know is aggy always figures out a way to screw up a good thing.

I was afraid they might turn things around when they hired Schlosnoogle out of tcu. He really is a good coach. Hopefully, aggy will aggy it up & someone else (hopefully us) will move on to the Super Regional.

Phil,

Save me the angst of looking it up while waiting for Center Point to turn off the electricity in yet another storm. Was that the Aggie Million Dollar Infield featuring Knobloch that lost to the Horns SEVEN TIMES?

Yes and no. Knoblach was on the team (SS I believe), they were ranked 1st most of the season, and took the series from us at CS that year. But the aggies were beaten in their own regional (there were no super-regionals then) while we won ours and went on to Omaha and plowed our way to the Championship Game, where we lost a 1-game championship to Wichita State. First and I believe only team to be eliminated from the CWS with 1 loss. Yes I am still butthurt about that.

Yes, Gus’ famous comment “where are the Aggies?”

Ahhh yes 1989, my freshman year in college. I wasnt in Austin yet (first two years at UTEP, long story) but was a huge college baseball fan already from afar. Aggy had their best baseball team ever (and frankly still their best team ever) and all year long looked to be national title favorites winning 55 games in the regular season and both the SWC regular season and SWC tournament titles. They took 2 out of 3 in College Station from the Horns and then beat Texas twice in the SWC tournament. Texas had a hell of team too with Dressendorfer pitching and it certainly looked like it would be the Horns and the Ags in Omaha for the whole thing. But LSU would come out of the losers bracket and beat aggy twice in one day at the aggy home regional including the final game in 11 innings to end aggy's dream year. That was on a Sunday and the Texas regional which started a day later ended on Monday and when Texas won Gus had his famous line "where are the aggies now." I have blocked out the Wichita State game from my memory and that scum bag Stephenson getting an NC.

You and I followed similar paths FWHORN. I arrived at UT in '89 after spending my first year blowing a scholarship at St. Mary's in San Antonio and my second year at UTSA bringing my GPA back up. Many a sunny Sunday was spent at the Disch catching an Irish tan watching the Horns under Gus - great times.

The 1989 aggies--best team never to make it Omaha. Hoping the 2024 team is the second-best team never to make it to Omaha. I was at the regional when Gus (not exactly known as a big trash-talker) made that comment and it was great.
