Recruiting anyone at PSU?

It seems like a really good fit for both parties. If he does come, he could be one of the biggest additions this season.

a little info from his recruiting days: Anthony Fera

While looking for info on Fera, I got to wondering who coaches the UT kickers. I found no one listed as responsible. Seems a couple years ago, Major was assigned return responsibilities and Akina was assigned coverage responsibilites on special teams. Is Akina responsible for the kickers?

We have Russ P/PK SO and Nick Jordan PK FR on scholarship. Non-Scholarship players are Alex King P (Sr Tr from Duke), Michael Davidson PK FR, Ben Pruitt PK FR RS, Nick Rose PK FR and Grant Sirgo PK SO. Only King has any significant P experience at Duke where he was 2nd team All-ACC as a P.

I didn't realize we were this inexperienced at PK. I thought Russ had more activity than just 2 KOs last year as his bio indicates.

So, going after Fera makes a ton of sense. And with only 82 scholarships committed for this season, Texas would not be affected by the 85 Limit Waiver that would reduce next years total allotment by one.

Get this done! I probably just jinxed it.

By the way, un-related, but connected... on that Chon page, off to the right, one of the tweets...one of the cleverest things I've seen in awhile... read all the details...

Honestly, this is the biggest no-brainer in the history of mankind (I think that is a radio ad for a loan company or something I heard, but anyway...).

We need the guy quite badly. Could turn out to be the biggest recruit of this year, knowing how inexprienced we are in kicking this year. Show the guy whatever love we can show within NCAA limits, and get him to come in. Now. Do your magic, Mack.

A bud and I discussed it today...

- kicking game takes away unnecessary pressure on both sides of the ball due to field position
- offense doesn't have to stretch the field to kick deep and make the other team take a long field
- run clock, then punt from wherever, and you're okay
- overall kicking game for 60 min can turn 3 potential narrow losses into 3 wins
- can close out a very tight game
- keeps an all-day advantage instead of an all-day disadvantage
- will be critical against WVA, then OU, and later TCU and very much AT KansasState, almost surely a night game
- can save a cockroach Saturday on the road at Stillwater or Lubbock
- Not just the 3-pt FGs, but the lock-down kickoffs, and the punting advantage.
- the list goes on

Coach Royal built consistency around the kicking game and considered it vital, and usually the difference maker.

Exactly. What's the holdup? Anybody knows?

I am really impatient on this. It is really something that could seriously improve our fortunes this year. And it is the one area of the game where somebody can come in and immediately contribute with hardly any practice. Get it done Mack, fast.

I liked that first paragraph in the Hou Chron story. Sometimes it is easy to forget the importance of a clutch field goal kicker.

Could there be another school he is considering? This thing needs to be taken care of ASAP.

don't the players report in about two weeks or less?

Is it possible that there is more smoke than fire to this?
The Rant story mentions "rumors" of a trip to Texas and that both parties "could be showing some interest." Those aren't exactly strong statements.

This was posted just over 24 hours ago...

Per @max_olson, Penn State kicker Anthony Fera is planning to visit Texas on SundayThe Link #longhorns #hookem

More to come...

Question: will anything earth-shattering and worth knowing that you'd find on a money-site, just end up here or in a daily newspaper within 24 hours anyway? And/or... what paid-site is really worth two Grande Latte Something-or-other for you and your date plus pastry?. Is a pack of cigarettes now $8.95? How much is a whiskey at a bar? Whiskey or Orangeblooda, which will give you the less remorse?

^^^
Well I for one think it's worth the $7+/- a month investment, or as you might want to look at it, a couple of large lattes or in my case, a good Crown & Water a month... not everything comes out in 24 hours and makes it way to Hornfans or the AAS. I do throw some big nuggets onto the recruiting site here and recognize the Hookem.com/247Sports for the credit, but not all of them. Those guys are pretty good there!

I told myself that I would never buy into a paysite... but after getting a couple months free at the end of last year and saw all the really good recruiting info being thrown out before the ATM and after the banquet weekend, I was sold! Bobby Burton, Gerry Hamilton, Jeff Howe & Blake Monroe have quite a few contacts in the High School coaching ranks and inside the Texas program... so I'm happy with it.

Thx, HD Rider.... how did you know I was researching into Hookem.com/247Sports ??? Uncanny. I like that layout and site design better than all of them and grew tired last year of some aspects of most of the others. Thx for the post. Again.. .uncanny.

First transfer from Penn State is on the books... The Link -- and I'm glad news is going in that manner so the kicker, Anthony Fera, if he takes an offer will be barely mentioned in national news. I've predicted that Redd will go and then this kicker can come to Texas with the news of it quietly buried in a paragraph somewhere.

TTT.... I believe as of Wed morning... four players have now transfered, to the following programs: USC, NC-State, Cal, Rutgers.

An announcement to Texas should not be 'breaking news.' Just a subsequent addition to the list.
