Reasons for optimism next year

Look there are a crap ton of reasons to be pessimistic about next year but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some reasons for optimism and to bring a little light to this otherwise dark weekend I have a few:

Bijan and Roschon will make for a stud backfield;
Troy Omeire will be back and with Joshua Moore, Jake Smith, Jordan Whittington et al there are some pretty stout weapons to throw to;
Collins and Broughton look like studs inside and with Coburn that should make a strong D Line; and,
Ash will have full spring and off season to get his defense in and get players on board with system that was getting better throughout this corona screwed year.

I am realistic about all the problems this program faces, but the cup is not empty and the cupboard is not bare, there are some reasons to have at least some hope for next year. As for Herman, hell even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while, maybe he will too.

Prediction:
1. Herman's goal will be 1-0 each week.
2. A new landfill will be needed for his empty water bottles
3. Winning will be hard.
4. Every team and every coach we play will be doing an outstanding job.
5. We will have great practices every Sunday.
6. We will win practice every Sunday.

That said FW, I hope at least one of our young QB's breaks out and I hope that our O-line grows up and shows up big time.

Hope is not a plan or strategy. TH couldn’t win with a veteran QB and the 5th most talented roster in the country.

We lost a game we should have won vs Iowa St.
We last a game we had no business losing vs TCU
We lost a game in the 4th OT, so actually we were very close to going undefeated ;)

Denmark,

If you get Herman to give back a million for each "shoulda been", I won't be so pissed.

NO wait, I'll still be just as pissed, but it would be a nice gesture.

I am optimistic that my long cruise booked during the season next year will still sail because I don't care like I did before this year. :idk:

We won a game, Tech, that we had no business winning. It was a miracle.

We won another game, OSU, as a result of three gifts — and I’m not talking about the turnovers “we caused” — and a terrible call that benefited us at the end of the game.

We won another game, WV, because of another ridiculous call, again near the end of the game.

We are probably a 5-4 team with 9-0 talent. Think about that.

FW, if they cannot tackle all of this stuff doesn't matter. All the defense needs to do in the Spring is to spend every minute learning how to tackle. They can pick-up the other stuff in fall camp.

Somebody convince Herman that he's going to XNA for a "bowl game"; maybe we roll the Hogs.

They know how to tackle.
Every college team knows how to tackle.
Tackling is a matter of desire, strength, anticipation and fearlessness. Desire is huge. Practice helps to understand what it takes to make a tackle. But everyone misses tackles due to the strength, skill and speed of the ball carrier. To be a good tackler one must sell out.

We disagree on this point. Throwing ones body at a runner is hope, not tackling.

To be a good tackler takes discipline, form, desire, and commitment, NOT commitment that I wants to be on ESPN highlight reel for blowing someone up, That is a result of lack of coaching and lack of respect for the coaches.

That falls at the feet of the head coach, who is not, has not, and will not ever do his job because he is too smart and too important to teach.

I'm a teacher, and you don't win **** by focusing on all the negatives...;) good luck with your method, glad you're not my dad.

my predictions:

there will be more books in the libraries than this year

the UT library will still be the biggest and best in Texas

all our games will be televised.

Bob Wills will still be king

you don't win **** by focusing on all the negatives

Neither do you win **** if you don't study the negatives and make adjustments, at halftime, after the game, and during the week.

I understand that the coaches want to present a positive attitude and build on that, but I failed the Mack Brown hand clapping class.

You know I keep reading this poo pooing Mack for hand clapping but I have watched Saban doing exactly the same thing at exactly the same instances: opposing TD, even a pic one time, so what’s the big deal?

A reason for optimism:

Our RB corps, combined with what will likely be an average or slightly better OL. A or even A+ RBs, and B~ or at least C+ OLs.* That’s the makings of a pretty good ground game.

*and I’m grading on the old UT late 80s strict bell curve. No grade inflation here.

Yeah I know Sabre but it’s the singular criticism of a common act that I smirk a bit at.
I’ll add I have cringed at it by Mack myself but raised my self-aware eyebrows when I saw Saban and others doing exactly the same thing on occasion.

#2: This is Austin, man, don't we recycle? Oh, yeah, closed due to covid....

Denmark, perhaps you’re one of those “participation trophy” guys. I’m not. I prefer to deal in reality. And the reality this year — as so many have pointed out — is that Herman had the deck massively stacked in his favor and he couldn’t get it done. Not close.

I’m not into spin.

The big deal is that Saban wins and wins big with his while Mack Brown sells snake oil

If the Mack Brown years were snake oil, sign us up for another freaking helping. That snake oil got us a national championship (first in 35 years), another NC game appearance, nine straight ten plus win seasons, five top five finishes, Rose Bowl and Fiesta Bowl wins, a Heisman winner, two conference championships, and the list just goes on and on. If that’s snake oil then pass the mug because we need some more of that.
