someone made an interesting observation. the comment was that in all likelihood, the hciw is having a lot of impact on decisions. the staff appears dedicated to generating a smooth transition, and the extent to which our offense morphs more toward what he is inclined to run, the smoother that transition will be. so we may see a very different offense emerge between now and when the baton is passed.
another matter related to that transition is the situation with conference membership. if, and it's a large if, mack is being primed to take over for deloss, my guess is that deloss wants all this conference alignment stuff out of the way and not dump it on mack. no doubt mack has the stuffing to be a terrific manager at that level as well, but, and it's a big but, it would be unfair for that to be pretty much his first task in the new shoes. i'm guessing that our decision-making in that regard is going to be linked to the coaching transition if - emphasis if - mack takes that job.
it is not out of the question that mack hand over the reigns to hciw and move, perhaps just for a time, into a role under dodds but deloss stay in charge.
it is going to be interesting to see how the muschamp rule affects this dynamic. if the rule is upheld - and i can't help it if i giggle when i think of beebe trying to convince anybody to do anything even when he really does want to - i can't help but see it push the process unless we want to play footsie with the nut-case-***-ants by declaring him almost hciw, or something. i can't see us doing something like that, actually.
